Thoughts About A Poll
Added 2024-09-08 13:10:26 +0000 UTCAs the newest audio of Alex is live on YouTube, I've been wondering about what to do next for his path.
I'd planned to do two more videos (including the previous one) to tie off his story and then graduate him. First would be the discussion, and the farewell would be the decision. But currently, I'm rather torn on if I should give the audience the power on how the conclusion should play out.
Here are my thoughts:
A PUBLIC POLL
I have done a public poll in the past but the outcome was incredibly obvious. For characters where the community have a consensus about staying with him, the story can only swing in one direction. But with Alex, I don't know if that's going to happen. The differing opinions on him are great from the discussions I've read, and the fact that I don't know what the final verdict will be is surprising to me!
But a part of me is wondering about the outcome, and the knowing of how the whole story will conclude.
I DECIDE
If I decide, the only way you'll know how it ends is by listening to the audio. As much as I would like the community to have a hand in these stories as you've done so in the past, I feel like the community may be a little too divisive with this particular scenario.

But if that leads to a different ending from what you have in mind, that might not leave you satisfied. He is your character and I am sure deep in your heart, you know exactly how you want to conclude his story.😊 I have read some comments on youtube and a lot of them say that Alex is the problem. I feel that is too easy. In my opinion both him and the listener have both been through things that have left them scarred and it explains their behaviour. In the last video it is obvious they both still love eachother (they have been stalking eachother on social media to see how they were doing) and Alex wants to work on their problems if they got back together again. I don't know how this will end and I would like to leave that into your very skilled and capable hands, Saku♥️

After reading MOST of the comments from the YouTube Crumpets about the latest Alex’s audio… Yeahhhh I kinda already have an idea of where this is gonna go 😂. I mean, admittedly I was one of those crumpets who hated Alex and was set on being like, ‘Alex is the BIGGEST Red Flag 🚩’ or ‘I hope he doesn’t get a happy ending’ 😂😅 (I know… u can hit me) but after listening to his latest audio, I don’t think we fully understood him or the problem in general. I feel like WE WERE the problem from the start 🤣🤣🤣. But… Yeahhhh idk 🤷♀️. Up to you bro. All the best Saku 😂

I see the appeal of a poll because it's the first character that's stirred up this much controversy where people would actually be okay with the listener leaving (a sad/bad ending). It must be refreshing since I can imagine writing happy endings all the time where the character and listener, despite the odds, were endgame. But, in my humble opinion, things haven't been as divisive to me. From the reactions that I've seen (and maybe I'm looking at a smaller sample size than you), people have been overwhelmingly leaning to one side. So, if you were to do a poll, the results seem quite obvious to me. It would be as fruitless as the Isaac poll because we all know everyone wanted to stay with Isaac. In this case, I really thought this audio would turn people around to, at the very least, being 'okay' with Alex. Maybe the majority still won't like/love him, but surely their animosity towards him would lessen. Buuuuuuuuut, that hasn't been the case 🙃. And it really just comes down to the fact that people just…hate Alex as a person 😂. There really isn't much he can do that will change the majority of people's minds about him. Now don't get me wrong, I love the fact that we finally have a character that's created this much discourse. It's fun seeing people come to differing conclusions about the audio and Alex in general. I LOVE it 😏. More than that, I appreciate how everyone has kept the discourse civil. You wouldn't believe the amount of toxicity that springs up on places like Twitter when you mention you love/don't love a particular character in a show or movie that's in direct contrast to what the majority feel. But with Alex, this makes the idea of polls very one-sided. Because maybe there are a few people on tumblr, discord, and Patreon that are neutral or like Alex, but the majority of your audience is on YouTube and that's where the poll will be and YouTube crumpets opinions on Alex are…loud and clear to say the least 😅. Which is why I think doing a poll would bear really obvious results. In which case, I prefer that you decide the ending and conclude this story in whatever way makes the most sense to you and the story as a whole. As a matter of fact, I honestly prefer that when it comes to endings, you are the sole deciding factor. I just feel like since you created the story, you should also be in charge of how it ends at the very least. And I get wanting community engagement and I don't see the issue of putting in an Easter egg every now and then that the community has been wanting, but when it comes to bookending a story, I'm of the opinion that the author should have the sole and final say. But that's just my personal opinion, and at the end of the day, I'm either going to strong-arm my way to a happy ending if there is a poll or leave it up to the odds if you decide 😏. Whichever option it is, I already know the conclusion to this story will be satisfactory to me whether it's happy, angsty, or somewhere in between.

This was my first thought but I really don’t know what others think of Alex and I don’t know what saku has in mind for Alex either... It’s like picking between poison and antidote without knowing which is which
