News From the Six Realms #34 - An Update, and the Year in Review

Hello everyone,

A little bit later with the news post this month, mostly because there is not a huge amount going on. The good news is that the December backer release is coming along nicely. I already have all the art (the backers will be seeing the rest of it throughout the week), and the writers are busy finishing up their events for me to code next week. As usual, we are on track to release on time, which this month is the weekend of the 22nd-23rd.

Since the end of another year is once again rapidly approaching, I thought now would be a good time to look back on Seeds of Chaos this year, and talk about where it is going in the future. In terms of development, I am pretty happy about what we have achieved this year. We moved to monthly releases, all of which have been decently sized, and on time. We brought in new team members that have been doing great work, and polished off all the routes of the Orciad before moving on to make a good stab at the next narrative, Rastedel. Overall we have added over two hundred thousand words, and over seventy new CGs to the game, which I think isn't too shabby personally.

Now, onto what I am less pleased about - growth. We started the year at just under five thousand, and it is looking like we'll finish around seven, which isn't great considering we've put in a lot more work this year than in previous ones. At this point, I really don't know why we aren't doing better, but all I can do is keep doing what I have been doing for the past few years, and hope that things will eventually improve.

Moving on to something a bit more positive - 2019! We have big plans for next year, and while I can't get too specific, I can give you some idea of what we have been discussing. The main one is that when we complete Rastedel and the upcoming Goblin race quest, we can finally move on to the game's second realm - The Frozen Tundra. We are all pretty psyched about the change of scenery. In addition, we are also going to look into ways to improve the core gameplay, and hopefully make it a bit more fun to play. Lastly, since the automated process Ren'Py uses is giving me problems, I'm going to hire someone in the new year to look into making android builds, so we can provide them every month in addition to the normal builds.

So, that is all for today really, other than to wish you a happy holidays if you celebrate them, and thank you all for playing and supporting the game. Here's to another year filled with more fantasy smut. :)

I think a high-quality translation can be made by a community of fans, and even for free. If they have such an opportunity.

Your creation is very ... strange, it gives me a storm of emotions, sometimes anger, sometimes pain, joy, aversion to the negative character, lust, debauchery, very strange and magical, thank you, continue!

Could it be done as a community effort by opening the game files and creating translations? AFAIK Python (which RenPy is built on) has been used for this in the past, starting with Battlefield 2

ExDee

I've never found them to make much difference to be honest, and I've already said on a number of occasions that if we make more money, I'll spend more on content.

Lord Arioch

Yeah, we are going to put it on steam.

Lord Arioch

Probably not, there's going to be over a million words at least, which makes translation costs very, very expensive.

Lord Arioch

Yes.

Lord Arioch

The main question. Do you plan to translate the game into other languages?

Hot Bunny (Adult games 18+)

Is there going to be more Rowan-Jezera content in future?

Xsandman78

If you're looking for growth, perhaps another stretch goal would help?

Megaduck

Thank you for news!)))

The lack of growth isn't really surprising to me. The work you've been doing is fantastic, but the work the devs put in can never be equated to the work the audience sees. Once the second realm has some major content out, you'll probably see a bit of a jump. That's how things usually work with ongoing games. Look at online games like WoW or Warframe. Players - old and new - always come rushing when there's a big, easily visible content splash, i.e. new regions or something like that. And like it or not, you haven't had that in a while. You've put a shit-ton of meat on the existing bones, but completely new things are always more flashy to people. :P

As the game keeps getting bigger and better more people will join, even if it's been slow growth-wise for a bit have faith in what you and your team are building. More people will take notice. This is already the biggest game that I've seen in my time among others in this genre and if my assumptions are correct you're not even finished half the game yet.

Soren the salty

Looking forward to exploring the Frozen Tundra.

Now that steam is open to smut to a certain extent I suggest putting a early access thing or just advertise the product on it.
