Hello gang,
First up, I just wanted to share the finished map with you, as you can now see above. I think it turned out really well, (there's also a lower floor not pictured). When I have the money to afford it, I'll be adding a second floor, which will have Andras and Jezera's bedrooms, and a few other new locations.
Most of you, by now, have probably seen that Breeding Season has gone the way of the dodo. It is always a shame when these things happen, because people who have invested in good faith get fucked over, and it makes the rest of us look bad. I hope, over the past few months, my commitment to getting out small releases on time, and the fact I haven't missed a deadline, have gone some way to showing you I care about this project. Instead of making promises to you that I won't do what the Breeding Season's creators have done, I'll tell you of the steps I'm taking to avoid it.
1. I am the sole director of Venus Noire, and this fact is registered with the government. In order for another person to screw the project over, as is claimed is the cause of the Breeding Season debacle, I'd have to write to the government to name them as an additional director, which I will not do.
2. Unlike a lot of other projects, I won't be swapping coding languages, no matter what. Ren'py is fine, and if something should come up that it cannot do, that feature will be put aside for a later game.
3. My philosophy for all in-game systems and interfaces is 'simple and functional'. As long as they work, there will be no messing around changing them, and certainly no massive overhauls.
4. I believe in small, attainable goals, and I am always re-evaluating the scope of the project. The original plans for the game were far too vast, and so I have reigned them in to make it more manageable.
I hope this goes some way to assuaging some of the fears that you may have. I am sincerely very grateful for all of those who have supported me, and may yet support me, because I could not make this game without you. At the end of the day, I am not making the game for me, I'm making it for other people to enjoy, and I want to do the best job I can.
Anyway, I'd better get back to working on the end of this prologue, as it will not code itself.
