The Northern Tyrant [Game of Thrones] Chapter 18 - Making of a Tyrant IV: The Breeding Grounds, The Wedding & The Goal

Wylis could use some of his money. He could give it to Cataya, secure her absolute loyalty, and order her to buy buildings and land in King's Landing to build brothels. She would be the formal owner, but in reality, the business would be Wylis's. This would allow him to maintain his reputation and operate from the shadows. He could then expand the network to Oldtown, Gulltown, White Harbor, and Lannisport. These are the largest trading and port cities in Westeros, always full of travelers, merchants, sailors, and nobles. It is easy to blend in within these cities, and gossip and rumors circulate very quickly. Brothels are not only a good source of income but also a valuable source of information and intelligence.

Владислав Форманюк

Please excuse my English, as it is not my native language. The North is a harsh region with a poor climate for wheat and other grains. However, these conditions are excellent for growing flax and hemp. Flax is used to create fabric for sails and other necessities. Hemp is used to create ropes, twine, and cloth. A tyrant could buy flax and hemp from his peasants. To avoid creating a bureaucracy, he could simply use money to incentivize his peasants to abandon inefficient grain farming and switch to these two crops. He could then use water wheel and primitive steam engine technology to establish the first manufactories in or near his castle. This would allow him to produce more goods at a lower cost. Braavos and Pentos, as trading and sea cities, would become excellent markets for these goods. We can also add the surrounding forests. The timber processing could also be partially automated, and the wood could be sold across the Narrow Sea. Cattle breeding is also well-developed in the North. There is a lot of unoccupied, grassy land, offering opportunities for grazing sheep. The tyrant could also establish manufactories for processing wool and sell it across the Narrow Sea as well. He could use a portion of the profits to buy wheat from the Riverlands, the Vale, or even Pentos. He would then sell this grain to his peasants, from whom he would buy hemp, flax, and wool. He could also create a system of grain storage and a reserve in case of famine in his lands. All of this would give him the money, resources, and people to build a seaport and a fleet. The next step would be to involve Horvund. Horvund has vast forests. Their lumberjacks would harvest the wood, float it down the river to Wylis’s lands, sell it to him, and he would process and sell it to Essos. After that, he could involve the Boltons, Karstarks, and Umbers, who have forests and the ability to grow sheep, hemp, and flax, and who need grain to avoid starving. He would buy these things from them and sell them grain. In essence, the North would be enslaved and would work for Wylis for food. And so, everyone is happy. The lords finally get a decent income from their lands. The Starks would receive taxes. The southerners don’t care about the North. And Westeros would get another very wealthy lord with blackjack and whores... that is, with his favorite women. With the money from this trade, he could buy goods in Essos and sell them in Westeros, and could get involved in transcontinental trade. He would have the means to maintain regular cavalry, infantry, archer, and siege regiments, the Kaiser's Guard, and a powerful fleet. The next stage would be issuing loans and creating his own bank. He would lend money, not just to states like the Bank of Braavos (although to them as well), but to small merchants and artisans—the very people who became the bourgeoisie in our history. In this way, he could keep them under control with a debt chain while also multiplying his wealth.

Владислав Форманюк

That would actually be a powerful asset. Controlling the Vale through his bastard son, who will worship him because of his fam,e etc, so nobody will find it weird, etc.

LordRhyolith

Just caught up to this its peak praise be to the holy author

Grabbott

I wonder if Wylis were to breed Lisa Arryn and pass his bastard as Jon Arryn's legitimate son, would that still count as a legitimate son for the system. I mean, the system is somewhat influenced by people's beliefs or else the pregnancy alerts would not be delayed until the mother's acknowledgement. So if a child of Wylis is acknowledged as legitimate even if it's legitimate for a differe father, would he still get the 5 years?

JO LP

Con sus poderes de Tierra control , quizas pueda detectar vetas , poner una refineria , vender lingotes de acero a essos y en esos puede intercambiarlos por especias , que vendera en westeros

arturo meraz

Kevan quickly coughed and changed the topic. "Should we begin preparing, Tywin? Soon or late, we will be on the Gold Road." I think i found a small mistake i think it should say Tywin? Sooner or later

travis btmb

The mc could make a proper collapsable spy glass which would be far superior to a myrish far eye since you can adjust the level of zoom by simply collapseing or extending it and it would be a sturdier design he could also make binoculars and advanced telescops but he may want to keep those for himself

travis btmb

I have a question could the mc buy a map of resources for example one for each continent like how he got that map of treasure sites and valyrian steel swords for westeros that way he would know of every grove of ironwood in the north and north of the wall as well of every location for potential mines

travis btmb

The mc could sell music boxes ,as well as other instruments they don't have in westeros like the guitar, the violin, the bagpipes would be cool if he had military bagpipes like the Scottish forces from the 1700s ,the bugle for military purposes, the drums for both military and civilian purposes, various Asian instruments such as the shamisen, the zither, the erhu.

travis btmb

With the mc knowledge he got from the civil engineering pack he bought he could offer land reclimation services for example he could teach dorn techniques to reclaim parts of the desert turning it into forests or in bravos they are like venice with the many islands in the lagoon eroding over time he could recover the islands by useing techniques to add to the existing islands with gravel, sand, stone and then place tetrapods which are a form of wave dissapating concrete blocks that are used to prevent erosion from weather and longshore drift and he could even make man made islands in some places if he needed or expand his own island holding for his naval resupply bases. He could also teach house reed how to make certain marshes in the neck into salt marshes so the cranogmen have more for trade and he gains their gratitude and friendship .

travis btmb

When the mc goes to ibben he could bring back yaks, when he goes to nefer in the far northeast of essos he could bring back bison and highland cows these three bovines would provide meat, milk, leather, and they have fur that would be great for winter clothes, blankets, cloaks and with aurochs, wagyu cows from leng and the native cows of westeros he could make a large beef industry with a wide variety of meat between his knowledge of earth food and the different types of bovine. He should also be grabbing horses from all over to make the best war horses, farming horses like clydsdale and fast horses with great endurance for light calvary he could even get zhorses from jogos nigai.

travis btmb

The mc should make the compass and the backstaff for improved navigation he could sell the backstaff but he should keep the compass a secret,he could also create cast iron stoves which would be more efficent and safer than fire places and a cast iron rocket stove would be great for ships since the flame although intense is contained and he could make a simple desalinator useing a small still to evaporate sea water into steam then back into fresh water granted it would be inefficent like 5 to 6 gallons of sea water to make 1 gallon of fresh but being able to always have fresh water while at sea would be huge he could sell this as well but might want to keep it to himself.

travis btmb

the most needed resource in the north is food you can try to create a greenhouse with hot springs or glass you can also increase fishing massively with giant traps I also saw that you can have the ability to tame animals so you can turn them into spies in every house there are always rats or birds so intelligence can also be sold if you are going to be near the sea you can produce salt since it is very expensive and essential for daily life produce cement first for the north and then for everyone I think you have to invest everything you can in the north since it is your base and where they are loyal so improve the life of the north as much as possible housing, health, food and hygiene and weapons.

nelson andres gomez cuartas

Nice idea

MrPlotThickens

The mc could also make water and steam powered saw mills for himself and he could sell the water powered ones to others like the forresters for a great deal on ironwood

travis btmb

The mc should use his good relantionship with hoster tully to get permission to build a bridge across the trident to avoid sending his trade caravans through the twins this would help him and hoster would love it but make the bridge out of stone or concrete and put it on either house vyprens, house erenfords or house mallisters land i would say mallister because they are the most trustworthy and if the mallister that was taken with brandon is still alive he will have house mallister in his debt for saving him if he still lives alongside brandon and the glover that lived in the original story.

travis btmb

Yeah. I plan on building a large hospital where people from across Westeros will come for healing. It'll also be a school for healers.

MrPlotThickens

The mc should sell medical tools like the forceps such things and the knowledge of how to use them would drasticly cut down on death during child birth and make him beloved across the seven kingdoms by many and having the smallfolk across the continent love you and maybe even be willing to hide you or help you in a bad situation is never a bad thing.

travis btmb

No. Physical things can't be bought. Only abilities and knowledge.

MrPlotThickens

I have a question can the mc use his system to buy things like an iron or diamond mine or coal and than place it in a mountain if he could he could make a cave with earth bending and put it in the cave and say he found it

travis btmb

He could also make a charcoal industry with his knowledge he could make better charcoal than westeros has.

travis btmb

He could import bamboo from yi-ti it will grow even in the cold and is very useful he could make unique furniture, flooring, its great for making scaffolding it also makes great canteens if you cut it properly. And the mc could make maple syrup but he would need to change the name to something like brown honey so ppl dont immedietly make the connection to maple trees.

travis btmb

The mc could also charge an arm and a leg to design proper sewers for all the major cities in westeros and he could design aquaducts for them as well these would be especially usefull in dorne and the westerlands.

travis btmb

When the war is over and they decide who gets what reward the mc needs to get a city charter for himself along with 2 more one for sea dragon port for benjens seat because benjen should not waste away at the watch and he could build a castle and port city there, then the second one for brandon so he can take moat cailin and the mc could design and help build a canal connecting the bite and the ferver river making a panama canal this would help the north greatly and strengthen house stark and if the mc does not take everything not nailed down in the vault beneath the red keep lets say he only takes a 3rd of the wealth or none he could convince robert to give lets say 100,000 gold dragons for brandon and benjen each to build their castles.

travis btmb

The most obvious one in my option is him trading ice. He can get it from the lords further north and sell it in the south. I know the ice trade was like the second largest crop in the US for a time, so it’s realistic to a degree. He’ll just have to figure out insulation, which shouldn’t be too hard.

Snack00

The mc should start a clock making bussiness he could sell grandfather clocks, mantle clocks, wall clocks, and pocket watches these could be sold to merchants ,nobles and the ppl from the iron bank and the rogare bank for outrageous sums. He could also setup a clock tower in his future city and ones in other cities for vast sums.

travis btmb

The mc should get into whaling the only other group that can is ibben and he should start doing crabbing and heavy duty fishing with drag nets and other modern fishing granted he will need to rotate his fishing fleets around so he does not wipe out any marine life in an area. This would allow him to harvest a huge amount of food from the sea compared to everyone else. Not to mention whale oil.

travis btmb

The mc should orginize expeditions for going north of the wall for wood the haunted forest used to be cut back 3 miles from the wall so the wildlings would have no cover and could be seen from a long ways off he could offer to send large groups of soldiers to cut back the trees which would help the watch plus he could give some of the wood to the watch for building materials and fire wood and keep the rest for himself if he made sleighs he could easily move the logs in the snow he could also introduce dog sleds to the north plus while north of the wall they could hunt shadowcats, ice bears and capture some aurochs and mamoths to bring back maybe convince some giants to come south,it would also be an opportunity to blood his troops with fighting against the more aggressive free folk,it would also set things up so he could claim ygritte, val, karsi and potentially save mors umbers daughter rowan who gets snatched by wildlings she was taken 30 years before jon snow joined the watch wylis could rescue her and either have an umber wife/paramor and it would get him the umbers friendship.

travis btmb

The mc will need lots of volcanic sand for his concrete industry if he uses concrete his only options close to home are dragonstone which he can purchase from either stannis or renly along with lots of dragon glass under the pretense of useing it for jewlery and decorations personally i say have him convince robert to give stannis storms end it should be his plus if he does it with stannis present or where ppl will hear it will make him an ally in stannis, the second option is skagos and skane both have volcanos skagos will give him access to the unicorns which would make great calvary for rough terrain and they have thick fur good for blankets, cloaks, coats.

travis btmb

The mc should also make a mercenary force to escort caravans in essos and take mercenary contracts this would allow him to rotate soldiers out lets say once every 2 years allowing them to blood themselves and gain experiance while making coin and contacts it would also help to keep people unaware of the huge proffessional army he has by keeping many of them in essos as mercenary bands with no official connections to him save for the one mercenary force he officially has

travis btmb

The mc needs to setup trading post all over the world he needs one in each of the last 2 cities of sarnor santh and morosh, ibben, bravos, pentos, kings landing, oldtown, planky town, new ghis, port yhos, qarkash, quarth, faros, vahar, port moraq, zabhad, turrani, leng ma, leng yi,jinqi, yin the capital of yi-ti, asabahd, asshai by the shadow, lannisport,at least one in the summer islands preferably one on each major island, volantis, lys, tyrosh,if possible take the stepstones otherwise take one island and hold it as a resupply point/naval base so if pirates start going after his ships he can immeditly respond , the isle of ceders is in slavers bay and no one owns it would be another good naval resupply point, elyria, tolos, astaphor, yunkai, meeren are all around slavers bay,the city of nefer is in northeast essos past ibben just south of the thousand islands he could put a trade post their and put a naval base on one of the many islands around their, their are also some unamed islands off the western tip of leviathan sound halfway between ibben and the thousand islands that would make a good resupply base, one of the basilisk isles could be a naval resupply base,he could also setup a resupply base on one of the islands in the cinnamon straits and one of the islands off the coast of leng or yi-ti i left out myr because if he starts selling glass they will not be happy.

travis btmb

Once he has forces and his fleets up and running i say he runs an escort bussiness where he has soldiers/warships guarding his own trade caravans/fleets and will allow others to tag along for a fee the only problem with this is if they bring their own ships they wont be able to keep up with his if he uses good age of sail ships preferably the late steam sail hybrids with steel spine and ribs plus ironwood hull with copper bottoms and copper coated steel armor plates over the hull with reverse compound scorpions in place of cannons if the mc does not want firearms as well as reverse compound arbelests preferably some kind of repeating ones like the magazine fed arbelest on the dwarven chariots in lord of the rings battle of the five armies would be like a medival gattling gun then you could have the scorpions be loaded with a single large bolt maybe develop some kind of explosive tip make it like how an rpg works where the nose is a metal plunger that when depresed detonates the charge which is why it has a pin in place to prevent it from being able to detonate until its ready to fire. In the case of people wanting to use their own ships he could have them rent his merchant marine fleets escort services for a bigger fee if the mc captures quellon greyjoy and harris harlaw the two ironborn lords trying to shift their people from the iron price to the gold price of trade he could help them by telling them to offer escort deals with the iron fleet for traders and he could even help them by having his merchant marine fleet work with them to show people the ironborn are trying to change but this also removes the chance for glory from the ironborn rebellion.

travis btmb

He should start a major cheese bussiness with his knowledge he could make a much wider variety of cheese than whats avalible plus a good hard cheese like chedder if stored right can last decades and is filling which would be usefull for the north.

travis btmb

People dont realize being a king is a shit load of work, being a lord is already gonna be alot of work i would stay as a lord but have the power both economicly and militarily to crush anyone who threatend me and mine

travis btmb

Alcohol or soaps seem sensible. He could introduce whiskey well a crude version for the north. Despite fitting his fighting style he could sell house tarlys sword to Twin. If he has a port he should deginitely use knowledge from the system to have some of the best ships so his cargo makes it across almost always. And Lannister gold could be good capital from the sword sale to start. Frequency and volume ships. Capital can buy him more power. Those extra 11 kids will come in handy for the system and his life points. Hope he sees his firstborn boy soon glad he survived despite -2 vitality at the start.

Galend

business ideas -soap, shampoo, conditioner the early types as well as skincare products and makeup and perfume, make normal soap for the smallfolk and scented soaps for people with wealth. -early toothbrushes and toothpastes such as the tooth powders used my ancient Egypt/Greece/Rome such as powders made from burnt eggshells, pumice, crushed bones, oyster shells, and charcoal. Baking soda, sea salt, and even herbal mixtures were also employed as alternatives. -he could get tea leaves from the east and start up a tea industry. -chocolate and different kinds of candy if he can get the ingredients. -bakeries /donut/coffee shops he could start a coffee industry. -booze industry they only really have wine and ale in westeros. -improved farming equipment, and crops like the seed drill, McCormick reaper, improved steel plows, improved harness for the plow so they can use horses and burrows instead of oxen the horses and burrow have a lot more stamina, the cotton gin and he should introduce rice it would be a great crop and the neck is one giant bog perfect for growing rice that would make the northerners love him and give the north more independence when it comes to food plus you can make rice wine and as long as you keep rice dry it last for a long time and it goes with a lot of dishes. - a road bussiness where he makes roman style roads all over the north which is good for everyone and charge a maintenance fee and he could do the same for the south. - a leatherworking industry since he should be able to make higher quality leather good than anyone else. He could also make modern saddles and tack which should be far superior to the medieval saddles used everywhere else. -a carriage/wagon company producing wagons with a simple suspension system. - he could set up a rickshaw business in major cities like in china but he would need men to protect his business. - a tool making business for all kinds of quality hand tools like different kinds of shovels, picks, axes , ferro rods for starting fires and so forth. -a general store with products like sleeping bags without zippers like the early ones with loops and wooden toggles , tin pots and pans, rope, clothes, tools. also don't forget hemp can be made to make clothes, rope and paper.

travis btmb

for industry and business -he should setup a major cement industry for himself only he will need lots of cement/concrete and steel for his projects his castle and any important buildings should be made from reinforced concrete with steel rebar and his castle should be a star fort or 1800s era fort with a keep in the middle with curtain walls the sloped walls from these designs would make his castle immune to anything they could throw at it short of a dragon since such walls can resist cannon fire even if they are made of stone so no catapult or trebuchet will be able to really damage them and the bastions provided by such designs make brutal cross fires the defenders can use. -he can setup a hotel chain in major cities and a chain of fortified inns across the 7 kingdoms. - selling ice he can put boiled water into molds and freeze it over night even in the summer if he is at rams gate because its cold enough in the north that many lakes and ponds remain frozen in the northern half of the north even in summer or he could cut ice from the coast of the shivering sea or find sources of ice from caves then store it underground in a simple freezer or above ground in winter and ship ice all over. -canned food with tin cans -glass myr will come after his ass so initially he should gift enough glass for all the lords of the north to have at least one large glass garden and he can sell it to the far east meaning yi-ti and leng since the myrish dont go that far. then once he is strong enough he can start selling it in essos and westeros. -paper he can make white or as close as he can get it paper from trees and brown paper from hemp the white paper would be marketed as high quality and the brown low quality plus hemp can be grown alot faster than trees and he could even make early toilet paper. -clothes of all kinds using machines like the flying shuttle, spinning mule, early sewing machine , Jacquard loom and spinning jenny with these he can mass produce good quality clothing , imagine how sexy his ladies would look with proper lingerie, corsets plus such things would be a hit with people. - a massive ironworks with blast furnaces and Bessemer a good Bessemer will produce 3 to 5 tons of high quality steel every 20 minutes and it produces coke as a byproduct which is a great fertilizer, he will also need steam engines for power hammers and water wheels/water frames. with this he will have all the metal he needs plus he can sell what he doesn't need if he takes over the steel industry he could gain the title the tyrant of steel. -he should build the biggest shipyard in the world because he will need a huge warfleet and merchant fleet plus a merchant marine fleet whos sole job is to protect the merchant fleet while the war fleet protects the north and is used for war and he will need good ships like clipper, schooners, cutter, merchant galleon, war galleon, junks, sloops, trade brigs ,war brigs, trade frigate, war frigate, grand frigate, 1st through 6th rate ships, brigantine ship, barquentine, and steam powered hybrids with both steam and sail and the warships could have copper or steel armor plating over the iron wood or a copper coating over the steel plates if he cant make stainless steel and he can give his ships a steel spine and ribs, also all of his ships needs a copper bottom coating this keeps sea worms and barnacles off the hull since copper in sea water produces a chemical that is poisonous to sea life and this extends the life of the hull as well as increases the speed due to less friction and just replace the cannon with revers compound scorpions/ arbalests/ballista's unless he will introduce firearms although i would not unless he gets rune magic to make it so theguns cant be copied or used by anyone other than his own and naphtha throwers AKA early flamethrowers these designs would be for himself while he could sell caravels which would be a big upgrade from what the rest of the world has as well as cogs, galleys, longships, and the greek and roman ships like the trireme or roman Quadrireme, Quinquereme, Hexareme, Lembos, Hemiolia, Trihemiolia if he set up assembly line style construction with dry docks he could make a producing quality ships killing especially since most of the royal fleet was destroyed in that storm when deanery's Targaryen was born i remember the crown was very slow to rebuild the fleet due to roberts spending this could be another reason for him to make a tunnel to the vaults in kings landing and ransack the place during the siege he could just use earth bending to lower the whole floor of the vault by a couple of feet then cover the top with a stone floor then come back later and remove the gold through a tunnel leave some of the gold but take like half.

travis btmb

in my opinion for money and business he should kill lord drumm of the ironborn at the battle of the trident so he can claim red rain and sell it to lord tywin, lord lannister offered 4 million gold dragons for a valyrian steel sword that would be his startup money, alternatively he could ask for 3 million gold and then take a million gold in raw materials, or animals like horses, cows, pigs and so on, plus with his earth bending he could sneak into the vault under the red keep and take some of the gold their as well now once he has his money he should buy up all of flee bottom and turn it into his own business district wall it off under the pretense of increasing the cities defenses then set up shops, taverns, restaurants, food stalls , laundry matts , clothing stores, a hotel for normal merchants and folks, and a food delivery service with bicycles and carts a smithing section with smiths an apothecary/clinic selling medicine with healers to tend to anyone who comes in and charge them fairly, he should also buy some waterfront land and build his own personal dock heavily fortified, then he should buy the dragonpit and tear down the ruins robert would love that then build a coliseum in its place for all the tourneys he knows robert is gonna throw with a high end hotel built into part of it or next to it for nobles and the rich merchants and if their is space build a hippodrome for horse and chariot races. and he should also fix the sewer system for the city in exchange for a ten year tax cut. he could set up his own tunnels under the city and he can use the coliseum for training in secret the 5 or 6 thousand men he will have stationed their in his district as security or shop workers or whatever they will be hidden in plain sight that way he has a sizable force on standby if needed.

travis btmb

Im kinda hoping he stays as a lord instead of moving up to a king or something like that

Potato

Great chapter, looking forward to the tales to come of the septs giant folk haha. Ramsgate is an interesting choice. Looks like theres a very good degree of access inland via a river near it, one of the 'branches' leading to near Hornwood. Plenty of room for deveplotment there with what happens to House Hornwood. I'd imagine that there would also be a fair amount of lumber and fur to be traded there. It borders House Flint of Widow's Watch. With Wyllis earth bending I'm sure he could find some minerals along the coast he may not have access to otherwise. Think it might also offer a chance to flesh out the Flint's since they pretty much just seem to be there for a noble to die whenever they pop up. I think the main focus of Wyllis's trading empire is tilted too fair towards metalwork/smithing to be ignored and the area lends itself well to it. Depending on how close you want to set Ramsgate to the river some kind of watermill could get put into the works. Wyllis could also set to making a pretty solid shipyard. A little spending on some naval and ship building know-how and I'd imagine he'd be pretty set. Also fish. Fresh fish. Think his main challenge is going to be getting trade between Ramsgate and Bravos, White Harbour and beyond set up. The route seems like it would go through The Paps, Pebble and Three sisters and then onto White Harbour with local trade vessels then moving along the coast from there. Getting to be the first stop would likely step on the Manderleys toes a bit too much but becoming a strong alternative entry point to the eastern holds might not be. Looking forward to where things go :)

There weekly, so another 6 days

It's not possible. Lord Paramount is a title give to Lords that Aegon raised to rule a region on his behalf. There are only 3 Lord Paramount. Reach, Stormlands, and Trident. The other weren't given such title because they were already kings. Starks were already kings. For Wylis, it's a tough climb. After he takes Ramsgate he won't even be directly under Starks. Instead he'll be under Manderly. Because Ramsgate is under their rule. Through Manderly, Wylis will be sworn to Starks. For Wylis to become independent fully. He'll need 1. Big money 2. Big influence 3. Houses under him, sworn to him.

MrPlotThickens

Author, When Robert bestows lordship to MC will he become just a lord like Reeds and other houses or he becomes a lord paramount? I know you previously clarified that all lords of North should bend the knee for Starks as they are kinda caretakers of North but wondering whether Wylie can bend the knee to Starks but still be a lord paramount?

Banana19

agreed both whiskey and vodka would do well. pretty sure potatoes would grow well in the north, plus he could do food trade with the rest of the north, gaining some merrit with them. other ideas - printing press, a lot of money in books back in the day (may put him at odds with the maesters) glass (would be hard, and put him at odds with Essos, so maybe not) paper/ papyrus earth bending to find mines for different materials (coal, gold, silver, copper, iron) Iron could eventually be made into high-quality steel, and using the water wheel to produce basic hydraulic hammers could mass-produce the best armor and weapons.

billy hebert

Great idea

Tuco2 Salamanca

I will say some new type of alcohol from earth , like house redwyne they build their entire fortune over alcohol , and he can let his wifes like lyanna to be responsible over the business, so they won't become just beautiful vases for mc

Tuco2 Salamanca

penicillin and viagra

David M. Sep

Porcelain, brass not bronze (brass is inherently better and doesn't corrode like bronze but wasn't made til 1800's), booze, soap, better farming equipment, strike matches, concrete, fertilizer from nitrates(ie human waste), better fishing nets/trawlers instead of hand nets, shipbuilding (lashed masts, iron fittings for more size, wheel and rudder instead of a tiller), compass, bureaucracy, better looms for clothing and stronger sails, spinning wheels, water and wind workshops, dye production, glass, canning and food preservation. Like anything he builds has to affect food production first. Until steam power 75% of all people on Earth worked to produce food, industry cannot happen without workers and you can't have them unless you make more food with less farmers.

Ben

He might even invent the Bessemer process and name it after himself for better and cheaper steel.

Luck George

He could sell ice, help North lords with gold.

Luck George

Simple medical equipment and supplies. Like alcohole, iodine, forceps, scalpel and anything else that is relatively simple to produce and as a plus he already has the knowledge as a former medical company CEO and now because of the system

Raiden759

Alcohol and Soap are some of the easiest goods that can be made in North. No need to import anything more from Essos or Reach. Below are examples. 1.) Apple and nuts are grown abundantly in North while Wheat, Rye and Barley are grown in batches. So Willys can make various alcohols from these crops like Apple Brandy, Wheat Ale beer(Our world’s Blue Moon), Rye whiskey and Lager beer(made from Barley). He could create an alcohol consortium business with above drinks. 2.) Since mostly rich people take proper bath in GOT, He can create bath bombs that these rich people can use in bath tubs. He can also create soap but bath bombs feel more luxury and he can move more product compared to soap(1 bath bomb can be used for 1 bath and rich people like lords will always take more showers. More showers mean more money). 3.) He can create organic bath salts. This is little more complex than above 2 since the base ingredient Epsom salt(combination of Magnesium, sulfer salts) is not found in North. It should be abundantly found in Bravos and nearby regions. He can establish a trade with them for these salts. 4.) Organic Essential oils is another product he can make that can be sold a lot. Basically it is an extraction of various parts of plants like Peppermint, Eucalyptus, Lavender etc. These plants can be found normally. Probably no one tried to cause they do not have an idea about how and what to use to make the oils.

Banana19

He can help a lot if progress with inventions- but I agree with the commentors- the main ones once he establishes his place in rampage is- more efficient advances to ships to make them better. Soap and the encouragement to the people of bathing. He’d certainly try and advance irrigation, plumbing, for bathhouses, progress in drinkable water. With aqueducts and decent flow of crops and water. Leads to brewery. Proper scotch woohoo. I also think with encouraging cleanliness will lead to him pushing on and inventing toothpaste, mouth wash. Etc all will make money and a healthy populace is a strong and growing populace.

Jacob Weiss

One invention that he could recreate and make money selling and would make him more popular in the north and other places would be matches. A simple item compared to the printing press or something vastly more complex that would make lots of money, but having a easier portable way to start fires compared to flint and steel or rubbing sticks would be very appreciated in the cold north and appreciated and adopted in other places. Sulfer matches would be the easiest to start out with before moving onto and recreating the more familiar friction matches. Also salt is a easy resource to trade and make money from because people always need it for seasoning and food preservation and cooking.

In addition to my fellow commenters suggestions, here are a few from me. Wylis being a history buff could potentially introduce several shipbuilding advances that if kept secret enough could allow him to corner the market for the most advanced ships, for high end markets and sea fairing merchants. He could also look to either cooperate with or go against the Iron bank and create his own banking industry. Perhaps focusing on middle income individuals who need the capital or for startups. With his system granted knowledge of medical practises, I'm sure GoT friendly medicine making wouldn't be out of his wheelhouse. Creating a pharmaceutical power house, perhaps as an initial offshoot of a perfume business like Devor said. You'd have to be weery of the masters, but he could even strive to set up a more modern medical system, something to attract high earners who may have an ailing spouse or heir. Would also reduce any epidemics the rest of the kingdom may face. I could go on and on but those are what pop into my head immediately. 🐸🛳️

Kermit The Frog

perfumes cause Noble ladies would probably go crazy for it and he could involve the queen in it or salt from the ocean

Devor

Nice chapter, for business I would do Booze, Soap, maybe tooth brushes+paste? Also will he have access to Magic in the future?

Arsylvos

Booze, soap, make up, books

Fallout200k

Great Chapter, this is defo my favourite story of Yours! "I'd like to hear your ideas for what sort of businesses and industries Wylis can set up." It's a little overused in SI Stories in the North, but honestly, Alcohol, He must have some knowledge of more modern techniques of making alcohol, or his System has knowledge for it? Make different types, Like beets for molasses and make sweet drinks, Honey Mead if possible, not sure how bee's would work in the North though so it might be imported honey, If like in real life, Westeros (Europe) doesn't have a native potato, if Wylis is trading he can import it for a good winter food because it lasts well if stores properly, just don't over rely on it , or find out like the Irish did, and can be used to make Vodka. Alcohol is also useful for sanitary reasons as well, it will help him keep useful people alive longer.

Stremkoz

Soap is not difficult to make and alcohol.

Aaron Gurrola

he could go for alcohol as a start. He could make better beverages and sells them to nobles. With robert's drinking problem, wylis could also use him as ad for nobles. ramsgate having a port will only spread his product there.

White Wolf

I am really enjoying this story. I cannot wait to read more chapters. Please keep it going.

Deon Bland

Great chap! Def ur best story! Keep up great work!

MythicalMarauder

In canon Gregor was able to use a sword almost as tall as he was with extremely heavy armor, but um his castrations means he’s probably lost a shit ton of testosterone which means he’s probably much much weaker than in canon, so if he dies during the siege…Would not be upset honestly.

OrganicMeat(2.0)

Maybe in the future. She's too obsessed with Petyr. Will need Wylis to break that first.

MrPlotThickens

Can we get a Lysa chapter?

EMinor
