This week in the Forest! #46

OH SNAP it's Tuesday again! What the heck.

LET'S GET IT ON~ Starting with a Word from Vixel!

9/20 weekly report:

Heya floofs! Last week I finished scripting the full-color Bucky and Oliver sex scene to replace the sketch-lines placeholder loop we've had for the last couple builds.
I also brought in the new bukkake-themed date with Rascal and the Coyotes! This one is a bit more complex than other dates and includes two sets of illustrations and a new gossip dialogue as well. Still need to connect this to the start menu Gallery and then it'll be good to go!
We've had a tricky bug that shows up for some players when shearing Finley. In rare cases, dialogue won't play and the game softlocks waiting for the player to finish shearing, when there's no way to initiate the shearing! :O I've never been able to recreate this bug on my end, but I carefully rewrote all the scripts related to the shearing cutscene to use a different approach. This *should* eliminate the softlock!
That pretty much completes the story and sex scene content we are hoping to include for the Act 2 public release. There's some bugs and touch-ups still to do but we're getting helllla close now! :)

---

I've been doin' more animaaaaaaaaaaations! With what I've just started, I think we've got... 4 in the works right now? I've got 2 more I wanna make progress on before I start going back and coloring/finishing the others.

Other than that I've been working on some new workflow stuff for Act 4 and a special surprise later on 👁

FOR NOW, check out some tile-set making program Vixel and I were messing with today. It's called Tile Setter.

SO on the left, I've drawn up some test tiles. A wall tile set (the top) and a floor tile set.

Then, through this program, you're able to auto-generate tile sets with it. The program will attempt to automatically composite tiles that are next to each other contextually. The mess on the bottom right is the confusing shit that was really weird to figure out lmao.

But once you have the sets "set up" - you can basically "paint" levels! They'll auto-tile contextually and the process is pretty slick! It sets up a quick base for you to then layer up extra details 'n what not.

This was pretty coooool buuuuut, a lot of effort to make happen, and at the end of the day, PROBAAABLY wasn't worth jumping into.

However, We messed with the isometric method (it's a beta version) - and we were able to mess with some fun stuff!

Just a quick rough ground texture. And here's what we could paint with it really quickly

Using the two sets, we're able to get some variation on the edge. With the center, I can come back with another layer and add additional texture!

Though this is slick, and I might use it for potential elements, I think at the end of the day, I'm gonna be doing a lot of the end work in Aseprite anyways. PROOOBABLY better to just get really comfty with the brush options in Aseprite. But I might use this software for level design stuff. Act 4 we have some interesting plans - so this more modular set up for level design has been worth looking into!

ANYWHO! That's it for this week!

10$+ Folks, I'll be posting a poll for y'all soon! Keep an eye out for it :>

That Finley softlock happened to me. I thought it was because it wasn't finished.
