Devlog 55

I know my recent devlogs are all about me sharing features in Blender, because that's what I have been doing. Well, this time, it's about hair. This is the first hair I made using the new hair system in Blender. It doesn't look very good, but it means now I can use any hairstyles I am capable of making, and more importantly, keeping the hair colour consistent.

In Daz, every hair asset comes with its own set of colours, which essentially means it's impossible to get the same hair colour across different hair assets. It is most apparent when it comes to characters like Emma, whose is meant to have very light blonde hair as she first appeared. However, there are very few hair assets with such light blonde hair, so her hair colour wasn't consistent when I picked a new hairstyle for her.

In Blender, any hair made with its own hair system can use the same shader/colouring system, so I can always use the same colour. It's also very convenient that I can pick from a range of natural hair colours, rather than having to guess the hair colour from the entire colour spectrum, which can lead to unrealistic colours, because if I picked a very yellow colour when I actually want blonde hair, then it's unrealistic.

If I'm not mistaken, the Blender hair is also less demanding on my computer than Daz hair. Ironically, Daz actually has an internal hair system too, but it's so demanding on my computer that it's unusable.
