Umkhosi Womhlanga 2024 is in full steam with maidens from all over South Africa and neighbouring countries including the Batswanas joining the maidens in taking umhlanga (reeds) to His Majesty King Misuzulu ka Zwelithini at eNyokeni Royal Palace in Nongoma north of KZN. Umkhosi woMhlanga (Royal reed dance) takes place every year in September at the Enyokeni Royal Palace in Nongoma Enyokeni, KwaZulu-Natal. Maidens come from all parts of Zululand. They join in traditional singing and dancing, the reed dance is an opportunity to school the girls in their culture and also an opportunity to discuss contemporary social issues that affect them, such as HIV and teen pregnancies.
