Episode #817: Quantum of Solace (Live in Oxford, UK)

Recorded July 18, 2025 at the Old Fire Station Theatre - Oxford, UK

“I do think, every time you need to sing the title!” - Steve on Bond theme songs

On this week’s Summer Live episode, it’s our piping-hot pod straight out of Oxford all about the second Daniel Craig Bond film, Quantum of Solace! Why did they think they needed to chase the Jason Bourne movies, thus altering the very DNA of this franchise? Why is this movie so far up Casino Royale’s ass? Why couldn’t Mathieu Amalric get a dang parlor scene? And couldn’t they have thought of a more exciting villain lair than an empty hotel in the middle of the desert? PLUS: M’s boyfriend has some snack requests!

Quantum of Solace stars Daniel Craig, Olga Kurylenko, Mathieu Amalric, Giancarlo Giannini, Gemma Arterton, Jeffrey Wright, David Harbour, Jesper Christensen, Anatole Taubman, Rory Kinnear, and Dame Judi Dench as M; directed by Marc Forster.

Comments

I FINALLY listened to this because I was at the actual show in Oxford. You could hear me mumble THERE YOU GO at 22:32 mark. That was a great show and I came ALL THE WAY from Los Angeles to see all 6 shows. Greatest trip I’ve ever taken!! I drunkenly bought all the tickets in January and flew to England, made some amazing friends and hung with the boys. And yes, you might not be able to make it out but yes it was insanely humid there. There’s no AC anywhere and everyone was literally carrying cloths to wipe our faces down. With that said, it was an amazing 3 days. If you all could see them live, DO SO.

I know this episode only features one reference to what became a running joke through all the Oxford Shows, but any chance we see a 'Late Night at the Foot Fetish Factory' shirt in the future :)

Phil Dean

Thanks again for the beer, dude! It was a total lifesaver! - Andrew

As long as you're not doing anything untoward, it's all good! - Andrew

A couple thoughts: This is the best live show they've posted. Everyone was on their best shit with this. Eric saying "you don't know" about what the morticians don't want us to know was amazing (as was his great dictator line. Got a legit golf clap out of me) Cabin killed me every time he spoke. Steve trying to get through the show like he's your dad listening to you rave about John cusack in identity cuz you're young and dumb. Amazing, again. And Andrew, my captain, my captain- seriously, you guys nailed it. This also showed me that you mixed all of these together, you'd get me. Like Eric speaks right to my paranoid mind. Steve embodies the neediness. Andrew, the heart. I connect to Cabin's sarcasm so much, I think we might be related. Love this, guys. I will be a patron as long as I'm alive and little after I'm dead too

The audio quality on this one is great. I’m hoping it means a “Sub Rosa” episode of The Nexus is not far off!

Craig

Im starting to feel like Embalming with you guys in the background is a conflict of interest.

Alexander Trattner

Had to change my profile pic to my gf rocking my favorite UTAH GET ME 2 shirt! Seriously only took 1 minute for someone to say it on the pod! Never change WHM

Jonnie Sea

As some one who really likes this film and LOVES the Tosca sequence, their bit on it at 51:00 is HYSTERICAL! 😆

Geoff Gershon

Somehow Quantum of Solace returned

Eren Keskin

My great grandfather Daniel Craig went by the regular degular "Craig" but I come from a long line of illiterate drunken sheepstealers so I can't claim that's an endorsement.

Hamilton Dan

Oxford was a great time - first time also. This episode just reminded me how hot it was in the Old Firestation that weekend 😅 My party shirt was soaked through! Thanks to the WHM boys + family for making it over and so cool to meet some of you. I was the “gentlemen in the back” with the backup beer that I was only too happy to share with Andrew. Of course Chelsea was very sweet to buy me a glass of wine on the Sunday night show as a thank you. The special relationship between our two great nations continues 🙏🏾🍻

Deano Rezzz

I nearly wore my slipknot tee to the Oxford show because it was too hot to wear my korn hoodie #WeExist

Someone get Topher Grace to fan edit Casino of Solace. You could cut out like 30 minutes from Casino Royale and probably get away with only 45 minutes from all of Quantum.

jribs

From across the Pond, I must commend you for such a British name. Simon McCormack could easily have been the double agent in MI-6.

jribs

It's better to think of Quantum as a chaser to Casino Royale's hard liquor. Still not the worst of the Craig Bonds.

Holly Moore-Cumming is a great Bond girl name!

Tim O'

I saw this movie absolutely shitfaced, in the second row of the theater. Barely any recollection of the experience. Which, upon re-watching Quantum of Solace, might have been a good thing. Kind of surprised this one didn't stop the Craig Bond series in its tracks.

Michael Daniels

As somebody who had the pleasure of seeing all six shows in Oxford, it was a delight to relive Quantum of Solace. The audio doesn’t quite capture the rather slash-fictiony chemistry between Andrew and Chris. These were all WHM’s for the ages so hope the sound quality of the other performances is okay, Hellraiser was one of the funniest things I’ve ever experienced.

Simon McCormack

As a Craig, I do feel the need to point out to Americans that “Craig” does not rhyme with “Greg”.

Craig

Isnt solace a direct part 2 of the first 1? It just continues….

Jan

Also thr villain has probably the most realistic Bond villain scheme there is. I dont get the hate for it. Love that weird opera scene where Bond gets them all to stand up.

Matthew Lloyd

I kinda dig Quantum. Lean, mean, a little bit arty?? Id watch this over Spectre or NTTD any day of the week.

David

Hey I like this movie! And that’s okay!

jribs

Hot fresh live episode!! I really didn't expect to hear this one so soon (not a complaint). This is still my least favorite Bond movie of the Craig era but it also has some historical significance for me because it's the first movie I saw in theaters with the person I would eventually marry.
