The Nexus #107 "The Terratin Incident" / "The Drumhead"

On this month's edition of our Star Trek recap show, The Nexus, we're chatting about a fun episode of TOSTAS and a solidly-acted TNG message episode!

First up on TOSTAS, it's the silly, but fun episode, "The Terratin Incident," which originally aired on November 17, 1973. This episode has the Enterprise crew shrinking down to tiny size, Bones disappointed they have to abort a mapping mission, the ship's dilithium crystals tanking out again, and Nurse Chapel hilariously falling into a fish tank!

Then across the Neutral Zone on TNG, we're talking about the politically charged chamber episode, "The Drumhead." Premiering on April 27, 1991, this episode has a crooked Klingon tempting Worf with defection, yet another admiral losing their mind for some reason while aboard Enterprise, and a potential act of sabotage that sets off a McCarthy-esque witch hunt, the likes of which Picard has never scolded before!

The Nexus is a WHM podcast where the guys futilely go through two Star Trek series at the same time. Thank you so much for continuing to support our family of shows—we couldn't do it without you! We know you have lots of options for pods and we're super-stoked you chose to spend some time with us—thanks again!

You know, the more you watch TNG the more you realize how corrupt Starfleet is. Every Admiral they run into is either crooked, nefarious, or a complete idiot.

He does it in Measure of a Man where duty makes him be roboracist at Data, and Sisko in DS9 when Word blows up some Klingons. Trek writers love that shit.

Glad to hear Steve and Eric stand up to Big Betazoid!

TNG spinoff - Number One: Attorney at Law.

Just the unbelievable value of getting all these shows, on top of a plethora of tiny woman and shrinkage jokes, is one of the many reasons I'm a long-time patron of this podcast.

"The Drumhead" is one of those great "Let's give Patrick Stewart a chance to f*ckin act!" episodes

A couple of years from now, this will make for a great WHM trivia question—so take note! What are the seven Federation Guarantees, according to the WHM gang’s interpretation?

Regarding Riker acting as Tarses' counsel, one of the duties for an executive officer in the Navy can include representing a crew member in legal matters regardless of professional training. I often use my time in the navy to inform my knowledge of how Starfleet functions.

Crystal Castles was dope!

Lt. Arax does indeed have three arms AND is badly animated, everyone is right

“The Drumhead”—one of the greatest episodes of a television series ever. By the way, the necklace that Norah Satie was wearing throughout the episode was shaped like a noose. (4 out of 10 found this interesting)

King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard mentioned, woooooooo
