Animation Damnation: Superman The Animated Series - "Mxyzpixilated"

On this month's Animation Damnation, we're finally chatting about an episode of one of the all-time cartoon greats, Superman: The Animated Series!

The episode in question, "Mxyzpixilated," originally aired back on September 20, 1997, and features the total legend, Gilbert Gottfried, voicing the amusing villain, Mr. Mxyzptlk! How great is Gilbert, being so masterful at annoying Superman? How eerie is it when the Kents are turned into huge chickens? What's the deal with Superman using his laser eyes to shave... when he has to tidy up downtown? And, how great is this all-star voice cast? PLUS: Dear lord, how horny is this little cartoon episode, huh?

Thanks so much for being so awesome and supporting Animation Damnation on Patreon! Please be sure to spread the word! Your support is what keeps this operation going! We know you have a number of choices for pods and we appreciate you spending some time with us!

To this day, I'm genuinely amazed they got the okay for that ending. And seconding it is a great ep in general for helping showcase Superman himself as more than just a powerhouse.

And all this time I've been calling him Mixy-ez Pit-l-lick πŸ€¦πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ

Guys, any plans to cover King of the Hill in August? The new season will be out!

Andrew doing the "Elmer Fudd as Borat" impression and then realizing what he just did after the fact is hysterical. πŸ˜‚

Eric couldn't have been more right when he said, "He's not Zeus; he's Hercules." The inspiration for Superman's face on this show was actually Hercules from The Mighty Hercules (1963-1966). It's literally the same face, tbh.

Eren Keskin

The opening convo reminded me of former NHL player Mark Borowiecki. You would never guess in a million years how that last name is pronounced

Listening to this ep and the differences between Snyder and Gunn's version of Superman put me in mind if this scene from the sequel cartoon Justice League Unlimited. "Fanboys" had been complaining for years that the animated Supes was too underpowered but they put in this speech that I think is the best representation of Superman and how careful he has to be. https://youtu.be/Cl_5UwS57X8?feature=shared

Steve referencing the Dan Turpin episode has absolutely made my day!

If you're looking for another Superman episode I suggest "The Late Mr. Kent" Great episode showing the difference between Clark and Superman with the craziest ending for a cartoon for kids!

Dini was such a Mxy fanboy. The only character he loved more was Zatanna. So much so he married a real life Zatanna. Also when the boys talk about if Mxy was Eastern European, it reminded me of the version of Mxy in Smallville was from the Balkans and it was very embarrassing.

Bordering on a Side Order of Sleaze

Superman’s cape is the color red, which is a reference to the color spectrum, and the color red that is on it

Already did πŸ˜‚

"At the end of this episode, Lois Lane is seen eating a carrot. This is a reference to Phoebe Cates demonstrating a blowjob on a carrot in 1982's Fast Times at Ridgemont High." I may have liked this show a little more than Batman TAS. Don't @ me.

I will add the IMDB note for Eric later today.

On the first episode of Ornithological Idiots, we discuss how awesome it is when Robert Pattinson goes apeshit on that seagull in The Lighthouse

RIP Gilbert Gottfried. He was great as Mxyz. Supes making him spell his name in clouds was a funny move
