The Nexus #104 "The Magicks of Megas-tu" / "Identity Crisis"

On this month's trip into The Nexus, it's back to our originally scheduled programming as we chat about two pretty solid episodes of Trek!

First up, we're talking about the TOSTAS episode, "The Magicks of Megas-tu," which originally aired October 27, 1973. While we covered this nearly a decade ago on Animation Damnation, we wanted to go back for The Nexus and frankly, we're glad we did! It's the ridiculous episode where the Enterprise crew meets "The Devil," and Kirk saves his soul! It's just so totally outrageous story-wise, but the episode also features some wild animation!

Then across the Neutral Zone on TNG, we're talking about the Emmy Award-nominated episode, "Identity Crisis." Premiering on March 26, 1991, this is the episode where Geordi and a former co-worker start having their DNA scrambled, making them turn into these totally bizarre creatures. It's a great redemption episode for Geordi, who manages to simply work with a colleague to solve a mystery and not go on to create a holographic replica of her for... reasons.

The Nexus is a WHM podcast where the guys futilely go through two Star Trek series at the same time. Thank you so much for continuing to support our family of shows—we couldn't do it without you! We know you have lots of options for pods and we're super-stoked you chose to spend some time with us—thanks again!

Re: Kirk calling Sulu “helmsman”, if you haven’t seen it, watch this clip of Shatner introducing the cast of Star Trek V where he only introduces Koenig as “the gentleman who plays Checkov” https://youtu.be/g0Kv9d9SuG8?si=yEDQxj6QZFAtrgzd

Appreciating the comments on how much the devil is such a beefcake in TOSTAS because I saw the preview image and my gut reaction was "woah hey now 👀"

Busiris

The disrespect Worf received in this episode is hilarious. Riker yelling at him, “Geordi doesn’t have six hours!” Susannah also yelled at him, “No! He’s here! (Dumbass).” Worf’s like, “Tf”? 😂

Geordi to Susannah: Bogrow? You married that sonofabitch Bogrow? You thought Bogrow was a pos? (both laughing)

Lucien would clean up in Bushwick

Eren Keskin

"Tooling around Paramount Mountain, if you know what I mean" was way too relatable and way funnier than I was ready for.

Infinite Terror

I listened to the original AD episode on this a while back and discovered that, not only do I think it was the origin of McCoy’s love of the 90s, it also appears to be the origin of “tall glass of water”!

Megas tu point oh!
