MELR0210 #79 90210's "It's a Totally Happening Life" & Melrose Place's "I Am Curious Melrose"

It's our monthly flashback to sexy, sunny Los Angeles in the 1990s on MELR0210 and we're halfway to Christmas here!

First up on Beverly Hills, 90210, it's the idiotic Christmas episode, "It's a Totally Happening Life." Originally airing on December 16, 1992, this episode is structured around two angels who are telling this week's story a la It's a Wonderful Life, and it's easily one of the worst things this show ever did!

Then, across the way on Melrose Place, we're talking about the season three premiere, the outrageously titled, "I Am Curious Melrose." Premiering the evening of September 12, 1994, this episode has Jake rescuing the mysterious Brittany while at sea, Alison's father trying to family annihilate in San Francisco, and Kimberly hilariously framing Sidney for attempted murder!

MELR0210 is a WHM podcast where the guys blissfully stroll through the Beverly Hills, 90210 and Melrose Place timelines. The TV episodes covered will run in broadcast order.

Thanks so much for continuing to support the WHM Patreon! We know you have a lot of options when it comes to podcast entertainment and we're grateful you chose to spend some time with us. You're way cooler than Dylan McKay!

Got say love all these silver Surfer references.

I believe it was in this episode in which Eric said my new favorite quote “Where there [are] numbers, there is crime.” This is literally me whenever I look at my 401k and/or IRA and can’t figure out what it means, despite several different financial advisors explaining it to me.

“Dontcha got a bus to catch?” - true laugh out loud moment for me

Vōclō

Yes, the yanks pronouncing Craig to rhyme with Greg is strange af.

Hayden Cooper

7:35 Nice Roger Rabbit impression 😆

And Star Trek!

So, the implication of the 90210 episode's ending is that every time a bell rings, an angel gets his nut?

Hey guys, in the spirit of giving thanks, I just wanted to let you know that what u do really matters to me. You fill my alone time w joy and laughter and thought and love, and it really means a lot to me. Thank you so much for what you do. 🫶

I have to assume this 90210 episode was un-airable without all the angel garbage but I'd love to see someone cut the episode to exclude them and all the timeline jumbling. If it happened, I feel like it'd be a 25 minute episode.

Busiris

This is hard to admit, but I owned and wore the all blue cross colors outfit david is wearing towards the beginning of the episode around 92 93ish... it was an unexpected dagger of icy shame that pierced me as soon as I saw it 😂 it ruled. Also: if you think this is their worst idea... wait until their writers discover the plot device of dreams... and Dylans screenplay 😂

Jeff Wanless

Cold opens are for sitcoms.

J HEASLEY

The more I watch the show, the more I completely understand Courtney Thorn Smith leaving.

Ray

90210 ending with the angels fucking is absolutely BONKERS

TJ Guiney

To quote Andrew’s dad for Beverly Hills 90210 this month: “What is this shit?!”

James

Oh, to have seen Cabin's eye twitch when he saw the title of the Melrose ep...

Mark Ibarra

Even by the standards of primetime soap operas, Kathy Ireland is an otherworldly bad actress -- maybe the worst performance I've seen on both shows.

Z

TIL Greg rhymes with Craig if you’re American

Andrew Dean

I know what I'm watching tomorrow
