Episode #755: From Dusk Till Dawn (W❤️M, Live in Austin)

“It’s a real smorgasbord of vampires...” - Andrew

Recorded Live at Cap City Comedy in Austin, TX 5.15.24

On this week’s Summer Break episode, we were in Austin, Texas chatting about one of our all-time faves of the 1990s, From the Dusk Till Dawn! Did QT write this movie just so he could suck on Salma Hayek’s feet? How fantastic is Michael Parks at the start of this movie? Why couldn’t Seth have sent Richie to get those Big Kahuna burgers instead? And is this film Cheech Marin’s Nutty Professor?! PLUS: The exciting conclusion of this season’s VHS Trailer Game!

From Dusk Till Dawn stars George Clooney, Harvey Keitel, Quentin Tarantino, Juliette Lewis, Ernest Liu, Salma Hayek, Danny Trejo, Tom Savini, Fred Williamson, Michael Parks, John Saxon, Kelly Preston, John Hawkes, and Cheech Marin as Border Guard, Carlos & Chet Pussy; directed by Robert Rodriguez.

Comments

Listening to this episode after finding out Andrew's parents were at the show it's the cherry on top of this great episode 😂😂

Sergio Rozo

You could tell Steve had a lot of fun putting together the Bald, Balder, Baldest lightning round.

jribs

Speaking of live shows, I hope you come to Pittsburgh.

Charles Keracher

I can see it now: Larry the Cable Guy in “ICE Academy 2”. Available only on DVD!

Excitemike 64

I haven't seen it either but if I had to guess it's because the movie probably contains transphobia that would give Ace Ventura pause

Chris Rose

I heard the gasp too

Laura Coleman

Agreed, he's so awesome as a total piece of shit and it's a shame he never really went down that road again

JK

Any QT impression ending with JAAAAAAAN will never not make me laugh. Hilarious show

JK

HaHA! when Andrew said that one guy that looked like Larry Bird, my eyes grew wide knowing that’s who he was gonna say. I was just saying that same exact thing (to my cat) while re-watching. Deeper I get into the episode the more I’m guffaw’ing at all the similar observations. I texted a friend (fellow Dusk-head from back in the day) watching it and remarked “did you know the Vietnam vet guy is named Frost?!” - a fact I only learned perusing the Tribune Also gotta say, the arguments/discussions about the pros and cons of each of the four characters weapons I had with my brothers and friends came flooding back. I go the holy water, got a couple of badass super soakers and a bunch of balloons, vs just the handful of shots/arrows both Keitel/Juliette Lewis get, and the incredibly hard to use stake-machine Clooney has

RJ Cunningham

Going off the Signs/FDTD discussion - God wants a priest to prepare for aliens? Kill his wife (Signs) God wants a priest to prepare for vampires? Kill his wife (From Dusk Till Dawn) God wants a priest to prepare for demonic possession? Make them an accomplice to a war crime (Exorcist prequel) What else we got for this list?

Todd B

I feel like we need to quote his "and I'm shutting your butt down!" to Krishnan Guru-Murthy as often as we do the JAAAAAN interview.

Rose Esposito

I really just have to seek out the clip of QT's interview with Jan because the reference makes me laugh every time, even without context.

Busiris

Somehow, I watched this movie without having any idea what it was about and I was SCREAMING when the vampires came out in act 3

Em Smith

And then all those beers had me dancing in my seat for the last 15

Rod

"...Steve's heart attack comes right on time!" I have been assassinated, Cabin.

FiddlersGreenDay

Don’t know how I missed it. Appreciate it!

Rod

It can be got as a shirt, poster, etc on our Merch store: https://www.teepublic.com/t-shirt/63793366-spring-2024-tour

We Hate Movies

❤️❤️ thank you!! Love y’all!!

Jaime Lee Ezell

This is coming from someone who was very Pro QT back in the Sally days, y'all clowning him is such a balm to my soul. Because damn what an asshole he continues to be.

Tala Hobballah

The grand prize twist was downright Shymalanian. Or perhaps..."You're the Jamemaster. You've always been."

Mark Ibarra

It sounds like they're taking turns talking into a can with a string attached to it and on the other end of the string there's a microphone. Great episode guys ❤️ P.S. Alexis Texas can't even work in her home state. It's a tragedy.

Ray

The Jamemaster is dead! Long live the Jamemaster!

Kevin Lynch

Because it's the Citizen Kane of Jeremy Piven movies. PCU being a close very close second.

DMAC

Excited to revisit this as I drank four Electric Jellyfish at the show and my recollection of the last 20 or so minutes is, like my beer, a bit hazy

Chris Rose

I've never seen the movie (or heard of it), but why can't they do "Dr. Jekyll and Ms. Hyde"?

Michael Colon

Danny Trejo had super short hair and no facial hair in one episode of NYPD Blue. I didn't recognize him until he spoke

James C Harris

Re-watching this, I could feel how cool I found Clooney in this movie when I was a kid. And it’s kinda strange he never really ever plays a character that’s similar, I believe Steve mentioned that, but I think his persona here is much “cooler” than any performance I can really think of. Crazy he never really went for it again. His use of the word “fucking” in the movie is unmatched. Just saying “fucking vampires” made me cackle each time. Clooney is really effortlessly magnetic/charismatic. Embarrassing to admit but hilarious to think now how I channeled this performance in every movie my friends and I made throughout our teen years. I could write a thesis on all my thoughts on seeing this movie after so long, but mainly, this movie kicks fucking ass. Had a huge smile on my face throughout, revisiting an old friend and he’s just as cool as always

RJ Cunningham

Hope things pick up, Jaime! - Andrew

We Hate Movies

You lads spoil us on your supposed "month vacation"

I'd Rather Have No Name

The WLM part starts at about 23 minutes

Thomas Friedlander

I could be a snapping pussy, MARK!

DMAC

The Bald Actor Game is a truly inspired choice by the Game Master.

Tim O'Connor

So psyched to hear this again! I’m the dork who shouted they were at both shows. Any plan to release the tour poster? I’d like to buy one to commemorate.

Rod

I've been waiting for the finale of the VHS Trailer Game! A great movie to put it in front of too

Dylan

This has been an awful day for me, personal stuff, and seeing this posted has made my week!!! I’ve been waiting for this!! Thanks, guys ❤️
