Weekend Box Office Poll for the Weekend of May 31

Okay, I know some of you are thinking: why bother doing a box office poll this week considering the real DEARTH of new and interesting titles being released? To that I say, yeah, you're probably not wrong. But, hey! It's been a minute since we had a box office poll on here, so let's make the best of a shitty situation.

Now, films like The Garfield Movie and Furiosa will still be drawing folks, in fact, some of these new titles are having trouble even getting screen space because of all the holdovers from what was, let's face it, an irresponsibly packed May. So, we've got a real easy one this week: will any of these new titles chart in the Top 10? Here are the three options:

Young Woman and the Sea (Disney) - If you're like, "what is this," well, you're not alone. It's a movie where Daisy Ridley plays Trudy Ederle, the first woman to swim across the English Channel. I haven't seen a single thing about this movie anywhere, no TV spots, no trailer placement in theaters, not even any online ad buys. I'm not even sure why Disney is bothering to release this theatrically, but hey, I guess I'm glad they are. It was directed by Joachim Rønning who also directed Kon-Tiki in 2012 and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales in 2017, so he knows a thing or two about movies taking place on water, I suppose...

Summer Camp (Roadside Attractions) - Ah, Roadside Attractions, second only to Bleecker Street Films as far as almost exclusively releasing films for old people, and Castille Landon's Summer Camp doesn't appear to buck that trend at all. Three lifelong friends (Kathy Bates, Diane Keaton and Alfred Woodard), who all went to summer camp a bunch as kids, decide to reunite and go to camp once again in their golden years for, reasons. Sounds... great. Again, this is another one where I've seen jack-shit about it in the lead-up to release, so who knows?

And finally:

In a Violent Nature (IFC Films) - Now, this one I know doesn't even belong here, but I'm really pumped for this movie to come out and I figured why not put it here to plug it to all of you fine folks in case you haven't heard of it yet?! We watched the coming attraction during Trailer Segment on OSL some weeks back; it's the film that's basically a Friday the 13th-type slasher where the entire movie takes place from the perspective of the monstrous, Jason Voorhees-in-Part-II-looking mass murderer. It's receiving an incredibly limited theatrical release (it's bound for Shudder later this year), so it's guaranteed not to make a splash, but seriously, check it out if it's playing near you, which it likely will not be!
