Too Old for This Shit # 1.3: X-Men '97's "Remember It" & "Lifedeath - Part 2"

“Does it take up calories, like The Flash?” - Eric, pondering Nightcrawler’s powers

On this edition of Too Old for This Shit, we’re chatting about two more fabulous episodes of X-Men ’97: episode five, “Remember It,” and episode six, “Lifedeath - Part 2.”

With last week’s most excellent “Remember It,” we’ve got Scott Summers getting caught doing some psychic canoodling with Madelyne, Jean and Wolverine sharing a smooch, and that magnificent, devastating action sequence! Then on this week’s “Lifedeath - Part 2,” we see the return of a certain bald educator as he hides out in space with his empress bride, the Adversary shoving Storm into a coffin Kill Bill-style, a guy who really looks like Guardian of the Galaxy, Yondu, and Storm helping Forge find some aloe for his accursed sunburn/owl bite! PLUS: What incredible use of Ace of Base!

This first series of Too Old for This Shit is covering the first season of the all-new Disney+ show, X-Men ’97. The full release schedule is available on our website.

Thanks so much for being the kick-ass, top-tier subscribers that you all are! We’re so thrilled to be doing this new show and we could not be here doing it without your support! A few weeks late to this and the whole show but to clarify as a Uber nerd. Genosha started out as a South Africa Apartheid state metaphor. Once it was liberated it became the mutant nation we see here. Krakoa is a sentient Island that the X-Men have fought before but like all good X-Men villains they eventually became friends. Krakoa identifies as a mutants itself and became the home of the second mutant nation. This is more recent comic history and I kinda fell out reading it so I am not sure if it’s still a thing or not. I do know part of this storyline confirmed that Scott and Jean had finally got their relationship figured out by opening it up. Including maybe some kinky four ways between Scott, Jean, Logan and Emma Frost. Also one of the directives of the Krakoa nation was to make more mutants so everyone be fucking

This show is easily my fave thing you guys are doing right now (it brought me back to the Walsh!) and it brings me so much joy to be the loser in the patreon comments who gets to call you out on mixing up pixie and blink

That opening gag of this podcast is starting to sound like a Jeff Foxworthy routine but with "too old for this shit" in lieu of "a redneck"

Oh boy, a lot to unpack here. First, let's be glad our collective boyfriend, Nightcrawler, survived. (Just me? ok) Gambit should stay dead, and yes, Rogue should give Magneto the Napoleon treatment and embalm his penis. Also, get your shit together, Jean! Scott went through hell and back with Madelyne. That shared grief creates a strong bonding opportunity. He was with Madelyne the entire time she was pregnant, and they had to lose Cable together. Anyway, Skeleton League once again saves the day by giving Xavier a reality check. What a monarchist scum!

Just a grown man crying at a cartoon like a REAL COOL GUY OVER HERE

“Happy Nation Living in a Happy Nation” has been going through my head for the last two weeks. This show is fucking incredible. I’m impressed and swept up by every aspect of it. Scared we only get one good season, but I’ve learned “Hab keine Angst”
