The Nexus #90 "The Cloud Minders" / "Legacy"

On this month's journey into the Nexus, we're chatting about two really solid episodes of Trek

First up on TOS, as we wind down the series we're chatting about the no-way-it-didn't-influence-George-Lucas episode, "The Cloud Minders." Debuting back on February 28, 1969, this episode has Spock getting super-psyched to visit a cloud city, a guy throwing himself off a cloud city balcony, Kirk getting salty after inhaling some bad fumes, and our Enterprise boys looking for a chemical compound called Zenite!

Then a few parsecs over, we're talking TNG's "Legacy." This episode first dropped on October 27, 1990, and features our Enterprise crew meeting Tasha Yar's sister, Data getting better than Riker at poker, Picard admitting he recruited Tasha and stole her away from another starship post, and yet another Yar girl falling in love with a robot!

The Nexus is a WHM podcast where the guys futilely go through two Star Trek series at the same time. Thank you so much for continuing to support our family of shows—we couldn't do it without you! We know you have lots of options for podz and we're super-stoked you chose to spend some time with us—thanks again!

The Dangerous Alliance was a faction with Heyman, President Stone Cold Steve Austin, Rick Rude, Arnold Anderson and others

honestly they did Tasha dirty

Irregular History Buff

Yeah, the story of the Romulan Tasha is MUCH darker than that. It involves when they split timelines when Shooter McGavin and the Enterprise C came to the Future and then Tasha went back with them. Ironically, it's probably a worse fate than being randomly killed by a Monster of the Week goop creature.

lol but where's the fun in that? - Andrew

We Hate Movies

We have not, because we haven't yet decided what we'll do. You guys will be the first to know and we'll likely announce it in-episode in the coming months. - Andrew

We Hate Movies

Have the guys discussed what the plan is for the post-TOS episodes?

Steve's observation about the 40 year old Ensign being bitter about baby Wesley Ensign, welcome to every 40-year-old E-5 in the military's emotional baggage with new 21-year-old officers showing up at the office and immediately making 3x as much money and outranking them

Smaug

I promise Salt Lake isn't a Lynchian hellscape when you've gotten familiar with it, come back during warmer nicer times please!!! I'm the guy from the Fatal Attraction show who knew that douche on twitter Andrew called out in ep 400 lol, I was very "overhydrated" and Steve complimented my Big Trouble in Little China shirt.

Kody Nielsen

Kirk and Spock debate the movies is an incredible bit.

Matthew Taylor

Hearing Bones saying the r-word (in an antiquated medical sort of way) really made me blink lol

Trev Herron

I think you guys should just end the series on All Our Yesterdays and let it go out with some dignity

The story of how Picard met Tasha and the rest of the senior staff was elaborated on in the novel, "The Auto-Biography of Jean-Luc Picard." While obviously not canon, it very easily COULD be canon (atleast until the end of the book.) It's very easter eggy and, IMO, made for an interesting read.

Justine Prudhomme

Worf cheerfully braiding a rope while singing "Hang down your head, Tom Dooley..." popped in my head. I also had literally no memory of this TOS ep.
