Originally airing back on February 10, 1989, this is, without question, one of the worst things we've ever watched for this show in AD's entire 10-year run! Is Kathy narcoleptic or is there a gas leak in her house? Why does Irving think re-wiring a stereo is a hot Valentine's Day present? Shouldn't Cathy cut ties with these abhorrent parents? And what is with both of these idiots leaving the house in 1989 without cash in hand?

Long time Patreon backer who is finally digging into AD here. Thanks guys for doing this stuff. It's always something to make me laugh. This is probably a story that no one would care about, but listening to this episode made it come flooding back. I was 9 years old when the Pat Sajack show was on, and I remember watching it the night leading into Thanksgiving in 1989. It was a time when Jersey got snow more than once a year, and that year the first snow was that night. Like any 9 year old, I couldn't sleep, watching the snow fall and thinking about all the fun I'd have in the snow the next day. My dad worked late swing shifts, and I remember waiting for him to get home at midnight, something I usually couldn't do, but because of the holiday, my mom let me stay up and tire myself out. So I just remember watching the snow and Pat Sajack, who I would have known from watching Wheel. Sorry for getting all saccharine there. Hope you guys do another show in NJ/NY soon; the New Brunswick show was a great night. Happy Thanksgiving.

2024-03-07 13:30:17 +0000 UTCWatching this cartoon made my skin crawl. It's an encapsulation of all the horrible messages about gender roles and relationships I heard growing up. Maybe at the time it was relatable, but this constant drumming on about "I'm a woman, therefore I hate my body and eat too much chocolate and overthink everything and fight with my boyfriend" is both reductive and dismissive and terribly depressing. Media in the 80's and 90's loved to boil everything down to "women are like this, and men are like this" and it's just the worst most insulting garbage. This attitude of "this is just how it is, it's normal, this is what all women are like, not just me and my specific friend group but all women everywhere, universally" just sucks and I hate it.

I love those old commercials on there. I really need to get this digitized someday so I can watch it again. That’s literally the only way we watched wizard of oz when I was a kid, and it’s not complete for me without the Noxema, campbell’s soup, coke, or McDonald’s commercials.

I think the dad is also trying to kill the mom. He tells Cathy if her mom finds out about something (Probably about the therapist) it will kill her. There's a few beats and then he yells fir her to tell his wife the news. ("Finally I'll be free") I don't think Cathy says Ack during this at all. Her mom screams ack when she sees the lingerie in the bag....which actually gave me a chuckle during this horror show. Why so anti therapy so weird
