Episode #718: The Family Plan

“Is [the ‘prayers up’ thing] still going on? Is he still charging people to pray?” - Steve

On this week’s episode, we’re hitting the road with Mark Wahlberg and his fake family in the almost-Secret Movie™️, The Family Plan! How hilarious is it watching Mark get covered in that cherry slushy? Should this gamer kid be throwing up that hand signal? Is the matrimonial magic dead when your anniversary celebration is a rollercoaster ride? And why does this movie consider the city of Buffalo a great place to live, but only if you want to wake up, go to work, then die? PLUS: We give much well-deserved praise for the stunt teams that worked on this movie!

The Family Plan stars Mark Wahlberg, Michelle Monaghan, Zoe Colletti, Van Crosby, Maggie Q, Felicia Pearson, Lateef Crowder, Saïd Taghmaoui, and Ciarán Hinds as McCaffrey; directed by Simon Cellan Jones.

Episode #718: The Family Plan

Comments

Jupin's Wahlberg sounds like Edith Bunker. Which is a good thing.

Darcy

Mark Mark having a weird date on a rollercoaster is certainly not a first for his career.

Lono's Oboe

Maybe the shower scene is because Wahlberg was a huge fan of Jackie

Jamie

Literally watched this movie with my parents two nights before Christmas, Andrew is correct about that being this films sole purpose.

Joel Myers

in Gran Turismo the movie, they also invoke Enya, and for similar reasons they do in this movie, but just with cars

Frank Grimes

Good song with some bizarre lyrics if you read them.

Craig

The first 45 minutes is super entertaining. After that point I was confused as to why there was still an hour 15 left.

Ray

Chris was close but the Enya song he was thinking of is Orinoco Flow, a song I often listened to doing my paper route when I was 11

RJ Cunningham

Bro, We There Yet?

MarkNM

Did yours have an Area 51 cabinet, too? I think it was illegal to own a laser tag arena without one of those hanging around in the lobby.

John Edwards

What's Vegas got on Dash Rendar?

James C Harris

I was thinking of the Irish film Intermission with Colin Farrell and Colm Meaney.

Paul Deehan

Matt, if I hadn't seen it twice, I still wouldn't believe it's real. - Andrew

We Hate Movies

That's also a fake Christmas movie as I called out on OSL last year. Dreadful stuff. - Andrew

We Hate Movies

Laser tag was awesome. We had a place here in California/bay area called q-zar

Frank Grimes

Wahlberg's elevator pitch for The Family Plan: "Yo bro, remember me in The Big Hit? What if I did that with some True Lies and National Lampoons Vacation thrown in there? You can watch with the entire family bro!"

CharlesGrodin'sToupee

Ok we're just making up fake movies now aren't we

Matt

i kept confusing this with that movie on netflix w/ Helms and Garner. They probably have zero to do with each other...but both look as generic (I did watch the helms/garner one...it's basically freaky friday with a family)

Frank Grimes

Mark Wahlberg probably watched the tv show Rome after a long night of hate crime and thought Ciarán Hinds is actually Ceasar and keeps asking him about the pope ever since.

Eren Keskin

The other big needle drop of the Enya song is in the girl with the dragon tattoo and its in the scene where Daniel Craig has been strung up about to be tortured to death.
