Animation Damnation: Doug "Doug's Christmas Story"

On this month's Animation Damnation episode, we're celebrating the TENTH ANNIVERSARY OF ANIMATION DAMNATION (!!!) by talking about the tragic Doug holiday episode, "Doug's Christmas Story"!

Originally airing back on December 12, 1993, this episode has a severe lack of Patti and Roger, but does have Porkchop trying to prevent a death that was clearly meant to happen, the town of Bluffington becoming completely bloodthirsty wanting this dog dead, and Doug having a complete and total breakdown as he fluently shifts between four personalities! PLUS: Incredibly depressing Doug fan fiction!

Thanks so much for being so awesome and supporting We Hate Movies on Patreon! Please be sure to spread the word! Your support is what keeps this operation going! We know you have a number of choices for podz and we appreciate you spending some time with us!

Agree with all that the Patti impression is great, and her life pretty bleak, but went looked up and saw they had another Doug episode, and their Roger Klotz impression trumps the Patti. Playing him as an alt-right incel needs more appearances

This is an all timer - I could’ve listened to 4 more hours of drive bys at the citizens of bluffington.

There needs to be a Pirandello esque Six Characters in Search of an Author but with the deranged WHM versions of the characters. Bitchy Picard, Stupid selfish Billy, Patti, etc.

Jason

Merry Christmas WHM and WHM family!!

I worked with someone who had a fucked up nose and found put when he was a baby their dog bite his nose off and had multiple surgeries. They still kept the dog.

When I was 6 or 7 my aunt came to live with us for a while due to a divorce and had her pit bull with her. He was kept in an area of the backyard and was told not to go near him and stay away. We had own own dog who would often spill food and I would put it back in his bowl. OF COURSE I still eventually went to see her dog who had spilled his food so I started picking it up and he put his mouth on my arm to move it away like "hey man, that's mine". Not breaking the skin at all but I still freaked out and started screaming bloody murder. In the end my parents wanted the dog gone and she quickly had to find a new place to live. My aunt hasn't spoken to me since and really.. I don't blame her.

I wonder if Doug got Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher to be character witnesses for Porkchop. That is kind of their thing lately.

Brilliant stuff. Agree with the consensus around Patti being a hall of fame-level impression. I always look forward to any Doug-related contact from the WHM gang, and would happily pay extra for a higher Doug-focused Patreon tier!

More Patti impressions. Perfection

After not seeing Doug for decades, gotta say I think it ruled. Maybe it's just compared to anything animated today, it has a unique visual style (as simple as it is), the music throughout the episode was deliberate and well-done, and like Steve, I found some parts legitimately funny. Also I enjoy that cartoon quasi-reality, where an entire town will act as of something insane is perfectly normal. Feels like classic cartoon "looniness." Speaking of dogs and children, in the Argentinian movie When Evil Lurks from this year, there is a pretty jaw-dropping scene that I can sincerely say may actually change my real world perception of that scenario

🤣 I had forgotten it was an Xmas ep she was born in. I thought Disney doug already had her born by series start. But I remember that ridiculous name

OK I am gonna decloak and reveal my white trash roots here; a favorite thing of mine at potlucks or parties is a slow cooker filled with those cocktail smoked sausages and the sauce is equal parts grape jelly and heinz chili sauce. It works with cocktail meatballs too, you get a kind of sweet and tangy sauce that really works once you are a few drinks in. I can hard confirm this is in fact a thing.

They should do the Disney Doug Christmas episode next year. It's called "Doug's Secret Christmas" and it features the birth of Doug's baby sister. I won't spoil it here, but they give her an incredibly stupid name.

Patti Mayonnaise is my favorite impression. Hands down.

Infinite Terror

Wow, 10 years! Congrats guys, definitely doesn't feel like AD has been going that long

Smaug

Al-cat-raz is great

Frank Grimes

I feel the same way about Patty Mayonnaise as I do about Winnie Cooper

Dear Journal, It's me...Doug. We hate movies made fun of me, and porkchop tried to kill Bebe.
