The Nexus #86 - "The Lights of Zetar" / "Brothers"

On this month's trip into the Nexus, we're chatting about two pretty solid eps of Trek!

First up on TOS, it's the Scott-tastic episode, "The Lights of Zetar," which originally aired back on January 31, 1969. This episode features known woman-killer, Montgomery Scott, falling in love with another potential victim; a couple of ladies eerily uttering guttural noises like it's a horror movie; and a gigantic, fireworks factory-looking, space disco ball chasing the Enterprise

Then over on TNG, it's Brent Spiner talent showcase on the episode, "Brothers." Premiering on October 6, 1990, this ep has our man, Brent playing three characters with portrayals of not only Data, but Data's evil brother, Lore, and "father," Dr. Noonien Soong; Riker threatening a class-A Disgusting Shit Boy after the kid almost kills his little brother; and Picard, Worf, and the gang getting totally hoodwinked by Data when he easily commandeers the Enterprise

The Nexus is a WHM podcast where the guys futilely go through two Star Trek series at the same time. Thank you so much for continuing to support our family of shows—we couldn't do it without you! We know you have lots of options for podz and we're super-stoked you chose to spend some time with us—thanks again!

Thank you for all the laughs and introspective commentary.

"You lay eggs?" Funniest thing Eric has ever said.

Dr. Murderfish

It’s a shame Soong won’t return (apart from in Picard which you already covered) as I’d like to hear more of his thoughts on Tom Handy.

Craig

It’s got to be the same corpse retrieval crew that got Kirk and Soong right? Fumbling with that single layer of rocks and picking off the balsa wood dinosaur skeletons to freeze them for dubious scientific purposes, Lower Decks should cover this.

Salacious B. Cumb

"Brothers" actually reminded me of that awful Netflix Resident Evil show: Lance Reddick (RIP) played a character with a bunch of clones running about, so you got scenes with evil Matrix trenchcoat Lance chewing out meek science nerd Lance, or quirky dad Lance vamping about free breadsticks before snapping someone's neck. The show's almost unwatchable, but it's worth looking up a clip compilation of his stuff alone.

John Edwards

Glitch in the Matrix?

MarkNM

This is the 86th Nexus btw
