Episode #702 - Pumpkinhead

“[Pumpkinhead is] not a major player when you’re dealing out October recommendations…I would argue, maybe it should be?” - Andrew

On this week’s episode, the Halloween Spooktacular continues as the guys talk about the totally kick-ass Lance Henriksen horror vehicle, Pumpkinhead! How great is this big, Stan Winston Workshop-created, monster suit? How bad does this witch’s house smell? And is there a functioning toilet anywhere in this town? PLUS: Steve dramatically reads the poem that inspired the film!

Pumpkinhead stars Lance Henriksen, Jeff East, John D’Aquino, Kimberly Ross, Joel Hoffman, Cynthia Bain, Kerry Remsen, Florence Schauffler, Brian Bremer, Dick Warlock, and George ‘Buck’ Flower as Mr. Wallace; directed by Stan Winston.

Episode #702 - Pumpkinhead

Comments

So now I laugh when I hear the word Columbine. Really helping the reputation at work.

Kate

Just discovered the kid playing young Lance Henriksen in this was Laddie from The Lost Boys!

Happy Birthtime!

The lovers the dreamers and me

Colin Vitro

Been goin thru the back catalog, waiting for Eirc's sure favorite- The Duras Sisters !

Nathan Lemire

Can we get a movement to put Millennium streaming somewhere? Soon enough that Lance can feel the love? Who’s got connections?

Samuel McGuire

COLUMBINE!

Matt

Found it interesting that no one picked any similarities between the Pumpkinhead and Predator puppet / costume)? The Stan Winston connection….

Shut It Off

"little old southern grandma" is my favorite voice you guys do. all the witch impressions had me rolling. might have to check this movie out - i always assumed it was just schlock (but it sounds like it's the fun kind!)

Emily B

Sure was! And there was too much discussion of it for me to just cut the whole thing out, but it was very painful to listen back to this. What a shit movie. - Andrew

We Hate Movies

Thanks, Busiris! - Andrew

We Hate Movies

I heard you say they shot in California and I decided to look up where specifically because I myself lived in a part of rural California that very much had hollers. Turns out it was LA. Los Angeles is full of surprises. That said, you get deep into rural California...it is indistinguishable from the rural east or south. People even have twangy accents in some parts.

The Wheel

I get a little thrill when favorite podcast events occur (a new Once in a Lifetime shows up, favorite guests on some podcasts), but nothing compares to how much I perk up when I hear Steve say, "let me push PLAY real quick."

Paul DeCoursey-Clark

I see this was recorded prior to Andrew being very disappointed that David Duchovny was barely in that Pet Sematary movie.

Steven Avalos

The Patty Mayonnaise voice is back ❤️

Tim O'

Even though Pumpkinhead was the superior film, I used to cross it up in my head with Rawhead Rex for probably a decade.

MarkNM

I always loved how Joel realized the error of his ways right before he gets disposed of

Michael flores

recently got the lovely steelbook for this classic. RIP steelbooks/physical media @ Best Buy

Frank Grimes

Andrew mentioning that old phone company ad gave me such a vivid childhood flashback. I was young enough, when that commercial aired, to be genuinely impressed by the plot. It was like a 30-second heist film.

Noura Sarayel

Peacemaker (1990) is the Robert Forester movie

Maurice Jones

I'm sorry Roger Clinton had an acting career!?

Luke Witherell

Even just mid-way through listening and this one absolutely feels like it'll end up a classic Spooktacular episode, really hysterical!

Busiris

I love a good old fashioned Chekhov’s flamethrower

Francesca

Please do THE HIDDEN! Absolute banger of a movie.

John Halski

I'll die on this hill (via dirtbike) that this is one of the most underrated horror movies from the 80s. Great creature effects and Lance Henny at his best. It's effective and perfectly paced. And the sequel has Bill Clinton's brother, Roger, in it. So, suck it, Poltergeist franchise.

You Bred Raptors?

I was hoping this would be posted tonight, yay!!! And now I need to rewatch this movie. I saw it when I was way too young and had nightmares and haven’t seen it since
