The Nexus #80 - "Elaan of Troyius" / "The Most Toys"

On this edition of The Nexus, we're talking about two Trek episodes that each have a great guest star!

First up on TOS, the episode in question is "Elaan of Troyius," which originally aired on December 20, 1968. This ep guest stars France Nuyen as the titular Elaan, an alien bride-to-be who is not-so-thrilled about the nuptial arrangements, hates everyone aboard the Enterprise, doesn't care if her planet goes to war with another, but is of course ready to fall hard for Captain Kirk in two seconds.

Then over on TNG, we're talking "The Most Toys," which originally aired on May 5, 1990 and guest stars the legendary Saul Rubinek! In the ep, Rubinek's character orchestrates a wild kidnapping of Data where he fakes the android's death in order to keep him in his secret space collection. Meanwhile, a mourning Enterprise crew tries to move on, but Geordi suspects something's fishy. Solid, solid guest turn from the great Rubinek here!

The Nexus is a WHM podcast where the guys futilely go through two Star Trek series at the same time. Thank you so much for continuing to support this weird thing we do—we couldn't do it without you!

When you guys finish TOS I hope you do Voyager or DS9! 🙏🏻

When you run out of TOS the animated series is a natural extension.

It's how the production schedule worked out this month. 🤷‍♂️ - Andrew

We Hate Movies

David Rappaport (Time Bandits and The Bride) was originally playing Kivas Fajo (Saul Rubinek) but committed suicide during filming. Footage of him playing the character is on YT.

No, it's really crazy, a creepy kid ends up living behind the walls of a house and becomes obessed with one of the girls that move in... It features Dabney Coleman and Lisa Eilbacher (from 10 to Midnight)!

Felipe Sobreiro

Was it produced by the Burger King Corporation to drive sales away from the clown?

Tim O'Connor

The nexus before melro? Weird times we live in.

Ray

If you guys are willing to the expand the Once in a Lifetime episodes to encompass TV movies as a whole, there's a 1974 one that'd be great for the Spooktacular called BAD RONALD (more a thriller than horror but still)

Felipe Sobreiro

Most misogynistic episode… until the series finale…
