MELR0210 #57 - 90210's "Cardio-Funk" & Melrose Place's "The Tangled Web"

It's our monthly flashback to sunny, sexy, 1990's Los Angeles on MELR0210

First up on Beverly Hills, 90210, it's the ultra-filler episode, "Cardio-Funk," which first aired on February 27, 1992. While the writers kill time, this episode sees Dylan tempted by Sarah (a.k.a. Surfer Betty from s1e2's "The Green Room") while he helps her through A.A., Brenda tempted by the super-aggressive creep Tim she meets at aerobics class, and Jim Walsh—what's that say?—getting way too into the new karaoke machine he made Nat install at the Peach Pit?

Then up the street on Melrose Place, it's the sexy, wheel-spinning episode, "The Tangled Web"! Originally airing on November 10, 1993, this ep devotes all its time to Matt Fielding and the trials and tribulations of—lol, just kidding, Matt doesn't even appear in the episode. No, it's all about computer billionaire, Steve McMillan getting in one tangled web with Jo, Allison, and a rightfully-suspicious Billy; it's also about Amanda getting in a weirdly tangled web with Jake and her probably-embezzling father, Palmer. Oh, and Kimberly and Michael look at a kid's x-ray together.

MELR0210 is a WHM podcast where the guys blissfully stroll through the Beverly Hills, 90210 and Melrose Place timelines. The TV episodes covered will run in broadcast order, but they may skip duller 'sodes in order to keep the focus on the nitty, the gritty, and the downright bizarre. Thanks so much for continuing to support the WHM Patreon!

Super Force was terrible, usually aired Saturday afternoons on WWOR with She-Wolf of London as I recall

James C Harris

Please please please do Demonwarp

Hard To Gwil

Just looked up Super Force. Enjyoing this info about some prominent guest stars: Satori, a recurring villain in Season One, was played by G. Gordon Liddy, the man famous for planning the Watergate scandal break-in. Other guest stars with interesting pasts included lysergic acid diethylamide guru Timothy Leary and former adult film stars Traci Lords and Ginger Lynn.

Since Andrew made the effort to pronounce Spanish properly in the Uncharted episode I feel like I have to finally address the Japanese pronunciations. Japanese stresses all syllables the same so it isn’t “Yakuuuza” it’s “ya-ku-za.” Similarly, karaoke is actually closer to “Kara-okay” and my wife would really appreciate it if you’d make the switch, fellas.

Chris Vaughn

Hey guys, did you know that in real Life the actor playing billy recently got cucked as his wife cheated on him with her co worker? Pretty nuts Ps thank you letting us in on Super Force and Demonwarp

Maurice Jones

Just saw a clip from Demon Warp, where George Kennedy yells, "come out, you wooly bastard!' to Bigfoot... now I really want to watch the whole thing.

Z

Maybe it’s because they don’t have the rights to Do Wah Diddy.

Ryan Horn

In regards to karaoke, you could put my balls on the edge of a sewing machine and give me a choice between sewing my scrote or singing karaoke...well, I can forget physical pain, but mental pain lasts forever. Let 'er rip.

Michael Daniels

There’s a third damn poster of demon warp, or George Kennedys head is like floating in the middle of the poster, in a white circle and there are two reptilian hands coming out from behind him lol

Nope, not required to have a sponsor! Yes, people hook up at meetings. A longer term sober person going for a newly sober person is known as “working the 13th step”.

Sarah Wolf

This episode isn't on Paramount but is on PlutoTV. A mystery.

We Hate Movies

Here’s 2 answers to the AA questions… first, YES there are absolutely huge meetings with several hundred attendees here in Los Angeles (there are several giant meetings in Malibu), and there can be lots of famous people! I won’t name names, but I’ve seen tons of musicians and actors over my 24 years in AA. Second, main speakers are NEVER under 90 days. It wouldn’t have been crazy to have Surfing Sarah leading the meeting even if she’d just passed 90 days, but 50 days? No way. It’s weird how TV & movies get meetings wrong every time; the entertainment business in LA is pretty notorious for having a lot of alcoholics & drug addicts.

Sarah Wolf

A W?M of Demon Warp please.

Alexander Farr

Andrea’s an ‘American Pie’ girl for sure. If she’s gonna take three busses to get to the Pitt and not get home until 130am she’s getting her money’s worth and picking the longest and saddest fucking song on the list.

Josh Perrigo

Andrews breakdown of the opening of Melrose has me noticing things too. Like does Billy just poke that guy in the stomach when hes walking down the street?

Mike Miller

Beverly Hills got more hidden fucking episodes than 1940s Looney Tunes I swear lol
