The Warriors

On this patron-selected episode of WLM, the guys are chatting about the wild, NYC-set Walter Hill classic, The Warriors! How hilarious is it that all the Warriors were paying the subway fare? Did anyone in the gang really like Ajax? And how amusingly sad are those Orphans? PLUS: Much time devoted to talking about our beloved New York City, so listener discretion is advised!

The Warriors stars Michael Beck, James Remar, Dorsey Wright, Brian Tyler, David Harris, Tom McKitterick, Marcelino Sánchez, Terry Michos, Deborah Van Valkenburgh, Roger Hill, Lynne Thigpen, Mercedes Ruehl, and David Patrick Kelly as Luther; directed by Walter Hill.

Watched The Warriors for the first time last night, was an enjoyable film. Got to say though all the parody of the "Come out to play" scene I've come across over the years have seemed more intimidating than what I saw in this movie lol.

Kureigu

Oh I think the Mongols are a Hunter S Thompson reference.

The Wheel

I’m still kind of in disbelief at the dorks who actually complain about you discussing NYC. I don’t even like New York, and I’m always stoked to hear you talk about it! It’s an alien world to me, that makes it fascinating!

A Rekk

Love the "Tommy Boy-esque" pause/word correction when Eric is explaining why he printed out the notes. "Like a ree...ridiculous...person..." 😂

Brad Pendleton

It's available on the PSN store, still holds up ok.

Definitely underrated

Deitrich Tennin

The Warriors video game was amazing. Honestly it was way better than it should of been.

Timothy Smith

Someone please do an animation of the warriors sprinting up the stairs to the subway and Chris riding a track-mounted chair up waving at them, PLEASE

Here's the ads and trailers that may have run in front of The Warriors in theaters back in '79. https://www.dropbox.com/s/r63vi1cg1hbsb72/The%20Warriors%201979%20trailer%20reel.mp4?dl=0

Robert Denby

Imagine The Warriors in Jason Takes Manhattan lol.

Mike Kling

One of my favorite things about this movie is that no one is drop dead gorgeous. There's definitely hunks n hotties but nothing looks too perfect. People look sweaty, dirty and normal. It's a great sense of realism and I love it.

Tyler

Fucking love the NYC talk. I requested Gangs Of New York for just that reason.

Solomon3418

For reference the park the meeting is at is the very north end of the Bronx. Almost as far away from Coney Island as you can get and still be in NYC.

Nexuscrawler

Loved that Steve recommended The Wanderers at the end of the episode. Both movies are two of my old man's favorite films of all time and I watched them with him religiously growing up. Excellent episode overall--thanks!

Felipe Hallenbeck

I don't mind the NYC talk. I get a good chuckle out of the idea that you guys are teaching me anything about the city though. I've been listening to this show for close to 10 years now and I haven't learned a damn thing, with the exception that you can fall asleep on trains and just ride them around in circles in the middle of the night

Smaug

Being from rual Texas, I love all the NYC talk. It lets me know that somewhere, human civilization still exists. BTW, me and my wife visited NYC a few years ago, and loved it. Can't wait to go back.

“All this N-Y-C talk is killin’ me!” -Guy from Nebraska

Between this and MELR0210, this is gonna be a great start to the weekend. Work day is gonna fly by today. Thanks!

James C Harris

Great selection and great movie. If you haven't already, definitely check out another Walter Hill movie from that era called "The Long Riders." It has a knife fight with David Carradine and James Remar.

James

Canadian, from the other side of the continent. Haven't been to NYC (yet). Please don't ever stop talking about it. Love it.

Matt

In the early aughts, Warriors was featured in all the I Love the 80s/70s VH1 nostalgia stuff, which may have also helped in its resurgence!

Rob Brown

Seeing this as I wake up for work melts my anxiety away.

Matzar

Oh man, I can't get enough of these NYC talks. It deserves a tier in itself. Also, I can see WHM Gang laying waste to Warriors. They can't run away from Game Master's movie trivia.

Eren Keskin

Better get my atlas of New York out for this one...(kidding!)

Michael Daniels

Holy effing shit! This has been one of my favorite movies since childhood! Always imagined a remake was on the horizon but has never happened. And that outro song "In the City" always struck as kind of hilarious. Anyway can't WAIT to hear this one gang!

Mike Rivera

I've been waiting years for the guys to do this movie.

Jeffrey Williams

I CAN DIG IT

Johnny Warren

I love this movie so much!!!!

Mattie

Oh shit! Come out to play ay!
