Episode 596 - Kill Bill: Vol. 2

On the epic conclusion of the gang's WLM Kill Bill saga, it's all about Vol. 2! How horrendous would this film have been if Warren Beatty had been cast as Bill instead of Carradine? How incredible is the whole Pai Mei sequence? And does Budd live in an actual quarry? PLUS: Would Noah Baumbach's Kicking and Screaming have been better if it ended with a "Massacre at Two Pines"-style hit job at Eric Stoltz's bar?

Kill Bill: Vol. 2 stars Uma Thurman, David Carradine, Michael Madsen, Daryl Hannah, Clark Middleton, Larry Bishop, Sid Haig, Perla Haney-Jardine, Chris Nelson, and Samuel L. Jackson; directed by Quentin Tarantino.

Kill bill 2 is great and very long but epic if not tarry’s 5th movie

Jan

Another vote for Battle Royale!!! Director's cut.

Otelia Finnen

I can see it on the poster now: "Misogynistic in a good way" -- Steven Sajdak (at least I think it was him)

Otelia Finnen

I just wasted most of my office hour watching the "Malagueña Salerosa" credit sequence on repeat.

Erin Hardy

He would have cleaned it up (literally).

Sonya Ballantyne

Now I’m sort of wishing we could get a scene of him buying the strip club before the snake gets him

Andrew Bowers

I always assumed that Budd felt he had to suffer for his past and it made me wonder why he wanted the money from Elle if that were the case. Then I thought, oh, he gave the Bride her chance to take him down and she lost. So he was like, "Guilt over, back to owning the stripclub!"

Sonya Ballantyne

Lovin these two part episodes. Steve: I would love to listen to Sajdak Side Rant about the IMDB cast and "known for" algorithms.....for the laughs and the affirmation.

Tyler

I love Battle Royale! Just got the 4K box set, which is great, so would love to hear the guys do a commentary on it.

Tony King

Elle's codename, the California Mountain Snake, feasts on other snakes, so Budd should've known better. It's also a non-toxic snake, yet she was the one to use poison to kill, and since the Bride's arm belonged to Pai-Mei, we could technically say that the Pai-Mei got his vengeance after Elle loses her last remaining eye.

Eren Keskin

They mentioned Battle Royale and now I want a commentary. Will pay money. That movie is aggressively awesome.

Ray

Steve calling me out for having that EXACT poster on my wall in college. And he was right to do it. Yikes past me. Yikes.

Matt

It’s when someone says Beatrix, they don’t reveal her name throughout both movies.

Paul Del Real

Thanks again for the banger episode. Around 10 years ago, there was showing of Reservoir Dogs in Dublin, Ireland sponsored by the whiskey Jameson. There was free burgers, tacos and practically unlimited whiskey. (My last memory of the night was sitting on a bench trying not to pass out watching in drunken despair as the barmen poured leftover whiskey sours down the drain) Deadly night. But the best part was that Michael Madsen was doing a Q&A before the show. He staggers up on stage with a red embroidered bowling shirt on and a half-drank bottle of liquid fight in his hand. The host; an Irish radio DJ called Rick O'Shea (Yes, really) Asked him to give us a twirl. Madsen put the microphone to his mouth and vibrated out "I ain't a damn fashion show, man" Which you will agree was an amazing start that caused Rick to flop sweat and stutter as his confidence was annihilated. All in all he was a great laugh and could do an absolute spot on QT impression (I think you can find it on youtube) and an equally good Lawrence Tierney impression. He had some good stories and spoke practically about working in Hollywood and doing jobs for paychecks and balancing that with interesting stuff. He came across very pragmatic, thoughtful and basically said that his family is his passion which is cool. At one point he was asked about how come he ends up in stinkers despite being in some absolute classics. Like how can he be in Donnie Brasco and end up doing Piranhconda (Which is a shite question to ask someone) His response was beautiful "I got 5 kids, man" EDIT: I couldn't find his QT impression, but his Nolte is up there with Jupin's https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mCLXp2_p0KA

For some reason I found these two Kill Bill episodes super enjoyable and funny, the guys keep getting better

Tom Day

The only other actor I could see playing Bill would be Saxon.

John Carter

Super grateful you guys did an episode for each movie. Top ten favorites! Also, One of the bits that still sticks in my head is Josh Brolin “BRUTAL!”. Definitely would love to hear that make a return!

Jacob Ferguson

So many LOLs during this ep, thanks guys! #whm4ever

Jessie Drew (Forks)

Any of the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad would totally square up with someone who had a “I’d rather be bow hunting” bumper sticker.

Ellen Aim

So I'm just gonna say it, Vol 2 is the superior film. That being said, both movies are so fucking good.

Les Whinen

Yes! Was wondering how long we'd have to wait. I expected a month so this is a welcome surprise.

John Locke

I know its stupid but for a second I was so god damn excited for a 12 episode December XP

Evan

Holy shit! I'm ready!
