The Nexus #61 - "The Ultimate Computer" / "Booby Trap"

First up on TOS, it's "The Ultimate Computer." Originally airing March 8, 1968, this episode features Kirk getting shit on by a computer, that same computer taking over the entire ship, and Kirk ultimately talking that dastardly computer into suicide!
Then over on TNG, the episode in question is "Booby Trap." First hitting the airwaves back on October 28, 1989, this episode features Picard nerd-ing out over an ancient ship they find, Geordi getting flirtatious with a holographic scientist, and yet another computer having to take over the ship!
PLUS: Geordi getting absolutely HUMILIATED on the holodeck. Yikes!

2021-10-01 17:45:39 +0000 UTCFun fact: the character of Leah Brahms was originally called "Navid Daystrom" and was meant to be a descendent of Dr Daystrom from the TOS episode. Unfortunately, the casting department didn't get the memo that the part would require a black actor and so they hired Susan Gibney, prompting the writers to change her to Brahms and add the "Daystrom Institute" line as a reference to the original plan.

2021-10-01 04:26:17 +0000 UTCThere's a great follow-up to the TNG episode where Geordi meets the real Dr. Brahms, and he literally has no game. It's a great episode right up until the very end, where the all-male (most likely) writing room had to make Dr. Brahms apologize to Geordi for being so bitchy, even though she had just discovered his extremely inappropriate holodeck fantasy from this episode. ***SPOILER ALERT FOR LOWER DECKS*** Last week's episode of Star Trek: Lower Decks dealt with a crazy sentient computer that had to be transported to the Daystrom Institute for storage. The final scene showed it being stored in a giant wall of evil/crazy sentient computers, where they all started to yell at each other about how they were the ones that were going to escape and take over the Federation. So, M5 is probably in the very first slot. ETA: OK, so I finished listening and you guys brought up Dr. Brahms next appearance. Like I said above, it's pretty bad how it all works out.
