The Nexus #57 - "Return to Tomorrow" / "The Ensigns of Command"

On this month's trip into The Nexus, the gang is tangling with a younger Dr. Pulaski and getting a strong talking-to from a frustrated Data!

First up on TOS, it's "Return to Tomorrow." Originally airing February 9, 1968, this episode has Kirk & Co. conversating with some huge fish bowls; more hyper-intelligent god beings who are being total assholes; Nimoy getting to do some emotional, non-Spock acting; and a whole lotta body swapping!

Then on TNG, it's "The Ensigns of Command." First broadcast back on September 30, 1989, this ep has Data forcing his co-workers to attend another Ten Forward performance, Picard trying to negotiate with some frustratingly litigious aliens, Data trying to convince a whole colony that they're about to be wiped out by these powerful Gleep Glops, and an alien race that just looks like a guy with a cheap blanket draped over his head!

The Nexus is a WHM podcast where the guys futilely go through two Star Trek series at the same time. Thank you so much for continuing to support this weird thing we do—we couldn't do it without you!

Speaking of James Doohan doing voice acting and also not even certain if he ever used his normal voice, there's a TOS audiobook called "Star Trek: The Kobayashi Maru" where Kirk, Scotty, Sulu, and Chekov talk about their experiences with the eponymous test while in a disabled shuttle running out of air. James Doohan does -all- the voices and is also the narrator. Pretty neat if you're looking for an idea of his range.

"That writer's quote?" You mean the line from the poem written by a US President? Also, we used to have presidents who wrote poetry, the tweets of the 1820s.

Really sad they didn’t talk about Data’s girlfriend hucking a sledge hammer at him. How many non androids did she do this to before she got one right?

Thank you! I've been eagerly awaiting this. Also, fun fact: Sabotage was at #5 earlier this week on Netflix's Top 10 in the US. I took a photo hours later, when it dropped to #10. We're really nearing societal collapse if Sabotage is even slightly that popular.

Just saw that the WHM Gang are doing a commentary track on the 4K (drink!) release of Scanner Cop from Vinegar Syndrome.
