Animation Damnation - Batman: Mask of the Phantasm

Released on Christmas 1993, this rushed-to-theaters project could've been a total disaster, but instead completely rules and features Bruce Wayne flashbacks that don't show you his parents getting gunned down, a lot of hilarious mafioso murders, a solid outing to the Gotham World's Fair, and another magnificent performance from Mark Hamill as the Joker! PLUS: "And Robert Pattinson as Mr. Good Time!"

The phantasm actually makes a reappearance in the justice league cartoon in a section about the terry mcguinnus batman of the future.

2025-03-20 19:40:16 +0000 UTCI was (perhaps unnecessarily) excited by the new Dark Knight Returns Pts 1 and 2. Animation was a little off, Joker's voice will never be as good as Hammill. But the plot was good.... Though maybe because it was miles better than BvS: DoJ. At the very least, watch Pt 2.

But overall it’s hard to feel bad for him if one doesn’t work out because he can just fall back on his stable: Vicky Vale, Catwoman, Wonder Woman, Chase Meridian, Barbara Gordan, Talia al Ghul, Zatanna, or Lois Lane.
