The Mandalorian Half-Hour - Chapter 14: The Tragedy

CAUTION: SPOILERS BELOW (OBVIOUSLY)

On this week's re-cap, the guys are chatting about the most excellent, Robert Rodriguez-directed episode, "Chapter 14: The Tragedy." Written by the Favs, this episode featured Mando getting his car messed with big time, Grogu feeling some intense Force vibes, Boba Fett kicking serious stormtrooper ass, and the return of Ming-Na Wen as the assassin Fennec Shand! PLUS: Let us all marvel at the great Giancarlo Esposito still be completely menacing and terrifying while acting alongside... a puppet!

You don't like free speech when the people are ridiculing something you take seriously?

Shariq

There is a difference between having differing political viewpoints and supporting insane conspiracy theories. So no Carano deserves all the ridicule she gets. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes

Jibby Swiffer

I think it is possible to watch an actor, in this case Gina Carano, with whom you are politically opposed and not bring it up every time you mention her. Again, it is only a working theory, but I am pretty sure it checks out.

What I was wondering was why couldn’t the rebellion just send someone to Jaba’s with the money to settle the debt. It just occurred to me that Han needs that excuse to be able to bounce whenever he starts to feel anysort of attachments forming.

Josh Perrigo

I was about to agree with you - but then I remembered they DID pay Han loads at the end of A New Hope, before he came back and saved everyone. Maybe he gave the money back or something?

Rory Christopher

Hard to imagine they would have had that kind of money just lying around

Gunner Taylor

As soon as I saw him in that armor I knew you guys would call him Boba Fatt.

Timothy Cameron Robbins Miller

Speaking of Bobba being wanted for kidnapping general Solo, makes me wonder why the rebellion couldn’t have just wired the money that Han owed Jabba. That would have really taken the heat off of him and maybe even had that death mark expunged.

Josh Perrigo

Yeah. Definitely doesnt rhyme with tempura or menorah 😀

Speaking of Māori culture - 'Temuera' is pronounced like "teh-mu-E-dah" (the Māori R-sound is kind of softly trilled, so using a soft D-sound actually sounds better). Hope that helps! -HRJ

Lots of Māori cultural easter eggs in this. Tem has a Tusken Raider staff but he wields it like a Taiaha (Māori fighting staff). He pulls a bunch of pūkana (intimidating eye dilation used by warriors issuing a challenge) and finally he shows Mando his whakapapa (family history) to prove his claim to the armour.

There's an episode where Bart is trying to pick up a cupcake and is continually being shocked, as Lisa is experimenting on him. Perhaps it's that you're thinking of?

Tony King

Yeah, I can’t imagine them killing Boba Fett. He’s alive, he has an awesome partner, why the hell would they waste that? Oh, and also I don’t know what it was but Temuera Morrison voice was really doing it for me in this episode. I don’t know what he was doing differently than what he did in the movie, but I was into it.

Stacy

The machinegun guy was definitely in Empire Strikes Back, they were shooting at the Falcon when it was stuck at Echo Base.

Daniel Hood

The little orange thing designates a Storm Trooper commander

I'm with Eric 100% on the Boba dies scenario. It just doesn't make any sense to bring someone back from the dead just to kill him off all over again. They tried that with Darth Maul and it didn't work. Just let Boba have his armor and ship, help Mando get the kid back and take off. Besides, Jon Favreau is a huge Boba Fett fan (obviously) and I don't think he would go to all this trouble just to upset the fan base.

Grand Moff Tarkin is to blame for the shitty imperial stuff! He was in charge of its design and decided it would be better to focus on making imps look scary first, and effective second.

It's been forever and a day since I watched any SIMPSONS. Wasn't there an episode where Homer keeps getting electrocuted reaching for a donut or something? I thought of that every time Mando reached for Grogu on the rock.

Like frank dragging the aluminum pole across monks?

I've been looking forward to this episode all weekend. It's my favorite episode so far, despite showing Bill Burr for 3 seconds too many. Been a Boba fan since the beginning and feel the character has finally been vindicated. Thank you Favreau & Co.!
