Gleep Glossary: A Star Wars Story #22 - The Death Watch Mandalorians

On this month's very special Gleep Glossary, Eric educates the guys about the secretive Death Watch mandalorians! Was Death Watch riding with Count Dooku? Why couldn't we get these feisty mandalorians in the prequel films? And wow, one of those cartoons has Obi-Wan Kenobi laying pipe? PLUS: Magneto struggles with his reverse mortgage!

WHM is donating 100% of our 2020 merch income to causes  fighting for racial justice. For more information on how you can pitch  in, head over to our website.

Gleep Glossary: A Star Wars Story is a show where the guys try to honor the history and legacy of SW characters, most of whom we've been told don't matter anymore!

Thank you for continuing to support this weird, wild adventure we're on! You make this all possible!

Original cover art by friend of the show, the incredibly talented Felipe Sobreiro.

Gotta disagree here. Grievous is just a useless dork compared to his appearance in the original clone wars. Rebels at least has a structured story with emotional development, which is severely missing in clone wars

I think we established on Cool World that Eric hates cartoons, so I feel like blanket statement his opinions on cartoons need to be taken with a grain of salt. I don't have a ton of love for Clone Wars as a 38 year old, but I've always like Grievous as a character in the show and the prequels, Clone Wars is way better than Rebels. Rebels is hot garbage water

Smaug

I feel like that's just too good. maybe a weirder Samurai Jack or Dexter's Lab

Speaking of Tartakovsky I would love an animation damnation on Primal

The Clone Wars has some cool moments, but it’s really not worth investing dozens of hours to watch a story about a dumb war that amounts to nothing. The fact it gives so much background to all the side characters in the Prequels ends up making the films even WORSE, because it just highlights how terrible Lucas is at writing. I’m not watching a bunch of stuff about cool all the Jedi are when they are killed off so easily in like a 2 and a half minute montage. Edit: It also suffers from Comic Book Tie-In Syndrome. Namely, the idea of writing a bunch of stories around a main canon one, that attempts to explain every little detail and make them seem super significant. Often to really dumb points (like the whole "IG 88 was seconds away from taking over the Death Star when it blew up") type of bs.

I’ve never been into that Clone Wars stuff, but one of the best pieces of Star Wars anything that I’ve ever seen was Darth Maul’s death scene. Which surprises me as much as it surprises you, I’m sure! Like for real, if that’s the only Clone Wars thing you watch, is that five minute scene on YouTube, it’s worth it.

I binged Clone Wars right before the season finale and I honestly loved it. I think it was a bit annoying to make sure to I was watching in chronological order since the episode releases are not. Here’s the link to the chronological order for the show. https://www.starwars.com/news/star-wars-the-clone-wars-chronological-episodeorder

Ashoka killing the Death Watch guys is fucking rad. Don't sleep on the later seasons of Clone Wars. The last four episodes are as good as any Star Wars since return of the Jedi.

As someone who hated the prequels I was pretty resistant to watching Clone Wars until quarantine gave me an excuse to binge it all on Disney +. While i agree a lot of Clone Wars is pretty bad (especially those early seasons), I was into the whole Death Watch and Maul storyline and the later seasons are definitely better than most of Rebels.

I've always been in the tusken camp of clone wars sucks and the only good parts of rebels are in the premieres and finale. The rest is kid garbage and don't get me started on those helicopter lightsabers. Lastly, much like everyone else in the summer of 99 I was a big Darth maul stan but I could care less about his talkative narrative post phantom.

Chris Tobias

'Ben Kenobi: insurance salesman' destroyed me.

Alexander Farr

There's literally a 2000s drum n bass group called Concord Dawn

Andrew Dean

Peak boomer Star Wars takes, but that’s why I love them
