Who is Data's best friend...Geordi. Fuck this show. Made by the people who made the Tom Cruise mummy. Period. That's the only analysis this show needs.

Gary Dennis

I agree with the guys being gay is garbage keep up the good work

Bryan Gaal

Fun little tidbit about Riker's cameo, the backdrop was actually the Discovery bridge redressed with some panels removed and lights switched to red. Oh and he directed himself for JUST THAT BIT. God this whole series was B.A.D.

I know nothing about Star Trek, haven't watched any of the previous TV shows (did watch the Borg movie for some reason), but was enjoying Picard, to the point that I was keen to watch TNG. By the end I was like "Bring on the Destroyer, these people are all annoying as fuck". There were interesting ideas throughout, but it all kind of got cast aside for winky fan service and really bad acting.

I think all the blame Cabin is putting on Goldsman.. should be more on Alex Kurtzman, who btw was the mastermind behind that failed Universal Monsters expanded universe that started and ended with The Mummy

I had really mixed feelings about this season. The TNG-era callbacks tended to work well (pizza Riker, mercenary Seven, Picard himself), but so many of the original subplots fizzled. I can't remember if it was Steve or Eric who said it, but the Borg content was JUST on the verge of being really cool, and then had no payoff whatsoever. Which is especially disappointing because the last time we saw the Borg, Voyager had demystified them far too much; I'd hoped they could inject some new life into them, or at least their relationship with Picard. That being said, the Data scenes in this last episode were great. It was such a lovely way to finish his arc, especially when compared to Tom Hardy blowing him up. That gives me some hope for the next season, when it's not all just preamble anymore. And as much as I find Voyager to be a mixed bag, Jeri Ryan was always the best part of it, and I'll be happy to see more of her.

With the exception of the TNG characters (obviously), all the characters on “Picard” can s my d.

Less of a trainwreck than Discovery but still a trainwreck

The pieces are all there. It just wasn't put together well. If this whole season had been a 2-hour pilot episode then a lot of these strange decisions and stumbling narrative structures would be easier to forgive. I'm cautiously optimistic about season two. I also think this would have been a better binged show. Weekly installments did not do the show any favors.

Alexander Farr

I just started watching Discovery (figured why not, since I have CBS All Access). It's pretty dark and really good.

Allison

All that to say, thank you for watching this, I totally share in so much of the disappointment of this, and god what wasted opportunity there was to do something good that just gets tossed aside so that Star Trek can play at being prestige TV.

Matt Nelson

So this will be long, and probably the worst kind of comment but that's because I know the Star Trek franchise like the back of my hand, but this finale made me so mad. Such wasted opportunity and it feels like it really misses the point of Picard and why that character has resonated so strongly over time. When the first episode premiered, I was so excited to see Data and the Borg invoked because I thought this was going to be a tightly driven character drama around Picard, exploring his relationship with both Data and the Borg. The Borg were the most traumatic thing that Picard had ever experienced, a violation that has been an enduring part of his character. At the same time, his relationship with Data was one of the most gratifying ones of the old show, not only because Data literally saved him from the Borg, but because they were deep friends AND because it was exploring the nature of humanity and artificial intelligence, what makes someone human, what grants them sentience? That's the Star Trek cherry you want on your show's sundae. Not just a show but a show that is *about something*. And this show just wastes all of that opportunity to deeply explore the initial loss of Data, it wastes the actual loss of Picard as a person dying, it doesn't meaningfully explore any of his trauma with the Borg or explore the way that might have been influential in his understanding of Data. And then at the end it just handwaves and gives him his old body back because, well, that's the way it's gotta go. I cried when Picard died, how could I not? But at the same time I was so frustrated because I knew that I knew that I knew it would be ultimately meaningless. Honestly, what I was worried about was that this show would try to make a connection to Discovery (a show that I hate, no offense intended to anyone above, there was like 1.5 good Star Trek episodes in the first season and the second season didn't improve really, even with some phenomenal casting and acting, the storyline still sucks ass) with the AI, as the Big Bad of Discovery's second season was an artificial intelligence that used red as its color "theme".

Matt Nelson

Discovery is really good, season 2 especially.

Felipe Sobreiro

I'm hoping S3 will finally be the season they'll hit their stride. I'm so happy they're not restricted by the timeline anymore after S2's finale. I always felt it held it back since it had to stay within continuity constraints

Frank Grimes

You mentioned Discovery, and yes there is an actual openly out gay couple. And they actually do it, showing their relationship; they get on-screen kisses and it's not just implied. *hint hint, you should watch the show*

Tim Driver

Just found out that the actress who plays Soji was the one singing "Blue Skies" during Data's death scene.

Swan Benson

Man that fake out death was not earned. I did not care how those characters felt when they thought he died (well maybe only 7). The scenes were Riker and Data were the best. It's goofy he's Droid now though. Is Season 2 going to be TNG lite? What kinda plot will they make up?

Frank Grimes

Love Fringe! Definitely a flawed show but I thought it was one of the most creative and well acted Sci Fi shows ever made. I think lot of the story issues can't be put on the writers because the show kept being canceled then uncanceled. Also, fringe had some great villains (e.g. Jared Harris).

Mark Roberts

Eh heh heh.
