The Nexus #42 - "I, Mudd" / "The Royale"

First on TOS, it's the return of intergalactic scumbag, Harry Mudd in, "I, Mudd"! Originally airing on November 3rd, 1967, this episode features classic Trek elements like an army of sex robots, Kirk & Co. losing control of the ship at a frightening speed, and Uhura considering putting her consciousness into a robot body in order to live forever!
Then on TNG, it's one of the all-time biggest flops, "The Royale"! First gracing the airwaves on March 25th, 1989, this turkey features low-lights such as an extended sequence of Data learning to play Blackjack; a dumbass love triangle between a hotel bellhop, an unseen woman, and the mafia; and three decorated Starfleet officers getting fooled by a revolving door!

If aliens had to invent a world based on what you guys were currently watching, chances are you’d be stuck in a bad plotline too. Imagine living out the rest of your years stuck in The Seven Sons or something!

2020-02-25 22:41:17 +0000 UTCThe real evidence of just how much that TNG episode was despised lies in the first Nexus episode featuring Mudd. Good old Harry was the main reason that episode got panned across the board. I agree with the gang though, The Royal is a bunch of interesting ideas that are completely wasted. However, I am giddily excited for next month. When I watched this show in syndication 'Masks' was one of my favorites. Hope it holds up.
