Episode 464 - Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood
Added 2020-01-16 04:07:39 +0000 UTC
On this month's exclusive, full-length bonus We Love Movies episode, the gang is chatting about last year's studio smash hit, Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood! How rad is all the radio sound work here? Who among us wouldn't watch all six seasons of Bounty Law? And marvel at, and be envious of, Al Pacino's Rick Dalton Fuckin' Film Festival! PLUS: Did the guys really dine at the infamous El Coyote table?
Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, Margot Robbie, Emile Hirsch, Margaret Qualley, Timothy Olyphant, Julia Butters, Dakota Fanning, Mike Moh, Bruce Dern, Luke Perry, Damian Lewis, and Al Pacino; directed by Quentin Tarantino
This is some of the finest pod y’all have done. Like Steve’s grilled cheese, I had to watch OUATIH again, after hearing yall analyze, joke and LOVE this movie. That is a SWEATY acronym.

The only problem I had is Polanski didn’t buy the big one at the end

Does anyone think Cliff Booth might be the father of Floyd from True Romance?

Agreed. I have a feeling QT just cast her for the cinema scene so he could jack off over her feet.

Does anybody else feel like Margot Robbie is wasted in this film? You could get any pretty blonde. Why waste such a talented woman to smile in the camera? Although it is a beautiful smile.

I get what the guys are saying, obviously anyone who knows anything about martial arts films knows the importance of Bruce Lee and this film won't diminish that. That being said I just found it to be an unnecessary scene.

I think a good companion podcast to get the scope of the Manson murders, Sharon Tate, etc is You Must Remember This. That podcast covered everything well, and it’s a riveting listen.

I just read someone on Twitter (it was an rt and I forget who posted originally or I would credit them) saying QT's movies are often at points, juvenile. But isn't QT's whole world view in his films juvenile intentionally? He's recreating these things that he loved when he was at an impressionable age. That's why everything feels so heightened or exaggerated. The violence is over the top, the conversations are all witty or acerbic, etc. We're seeing what he saw as a juvenile in his work and I think you have to buy into that going into his movies. I just thought it was an odd criticism.

Because the editing wasn’t good. The pacing was terrible.

I loved it all, especially the brutality those bastards endured at the end, knowing they were real people and what they did. That was the beauty of it. Every time I watch i see something new that i love. Thanks for this great episode.
