Within Hip-Hop, Stan has been used since Nas' popularized it in Ether (2001) as a diss towards Jay-Z over his fanboying of Nas' career. It is indeed based off the Eminem song of the same name, but wasn't really used as an actual term/diss until Nas dropped it.
