The Nexus 06 - "The Enemy Within / Lonely Among Us"

On this trip into the Nexus, the gang chats about the TOS episode, "The Enemy Within," where Kirk gets split in half by the transporter and one side is a weak baby who slowly loses the ability to make decisions and the other side is a creepy monster who stalks and attacks Yeoman Rand in a totally uncomfortable and unnecessary scene. Plus, the classic Star Trek prop department move of putting a horn on an animal to make it look like an alien!

Then on the program, warping ahead a few years, the TNG episode, "Lonely Among Us," where an electric gremlin type creature invandes the Enterprise and starts jumping bodies until it finds its sexiest host, Picard! Also, Data acts Sherlock Holmes, which is terrible.

The Nexus is a We Hate Movies podcast where the guys futilely go through two Star Trek series at the same time; cover art by Felipe Sobreiro.

Also, the series is ripe for a re-watch. It is INSANE how many great character actors as well as names that are huge today were on that show. Some episodes are REALLY bad, yes, but it's unbelievable how many famous people were on that show.

Currently working my way through the complete series of Tales From The Crypt and the episode Andrew mentioned is a good one, but it's Joe Pesci, NOT Danny DeVito.

The thing I remember most about this TNG episode was the night it aired, I got jumped by a bunch of older kids while trick-or-treating, and they stole my bag of candy. This was on my TV when I got back home to tell my parents. Man - I had a great haul going, too - Full-sized candy bars and everything :(

Three of Swords

Worf: “Captain I’ll help you if you let me” (no joke)

Fun Fact: The actress who played Yeoman Rand was brought into a 1-on-1 meeting with one of the EPs on TOS to ostensibly discuss her career and ended up being (you guessed it) sexually assaulted. Despite that she still went on to star in a number of Star Trek episodes and films.

Inglefinger

Registering my support for a Reptilian officer. Also you were close, the rabbit’s name was Usagi Yojimbo.

Y'all asked if Odo ever shapeshifted into inanimate objects and yes, he totally does and it's hilarious every time. He shapeshifts into a table or something one time and seeing him shapeshift back into real Odo is a laugh riot.

grilled radstag

Yeah...gonna say more slash here please.

D

Say Mr. Datah, I hear slash is hilarious, I hope they keep it up on the holodeck podcast: We Hate Movies.

Allison

Honestly, their hatred of weird-looking aliens sometimes gets a little disturbing. Also more slash, ALWAYS MORE SLASH!

Jordan Etherington

Be as dirty and slash fictiony as you like, and how high do we need to get the patreon for 2 of these a month, I can't wait a whole nother month!

Jessica elbow
