Animation Damnation - Davey and Goliath

On this spooky October edition of

Animation Damnation

, the gang braves the terrifying world of Lutheran Church-produced stop motion animation to chat about a special Halloween episode of

Davey and Goliath

entitled, "Halloween Who-Dun-It."

Originally airing on October 15th, 1967, this cartoon surprisingly doesn't condemn the beloved holiday of Halloween so much as it naively pretends like a single, 40-something man wants to innocently take a little kid out on a "date" to the zoo.

Thanks so much for choosing to support the WHM Patreon. We Hate Movies exists because of your help.

I grew up in a super religious family, and let me tell ya: I've seen a lot of Superbook. Should be a definite "stay tuned".

ELCA Lutherans(the ones who made D&G) are generally pretty chill, definitely not the "Halloween is the devil's holiday!" types. My parents used to go to an ELCA church and their pastor started doing religious marriage ceremonies for gay couples like a decade before gay civil marriage became legal in my state, for example.

Hey Davey.....make plenty of gross jokes. I don't care. #birdoporn

As someone who grew up in the 1970's and 80's, Halloween was not at all as taboo as it is today. Our church used to have a full-fledged carnival on Halloween complete with a haunted house. Urban legends of tainted candy and whatnot put the kibosh on that.

You guys made me remember being a kid in Colombia, amongst the regular cartoons (He-Man, Thundercats, etc) there was really one about a couple of kids and a robot that went back in time to biblical times! I had forgotten all about that crap. Edit: holy shit, is the robot designed to look like he's from the Spanish Inquisition?! http://www.devocionalinfantil.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/la-historia-de-adan-y-eva.jpg
