The Nexus 02 - "The Man Trap/The Naked Now"

On the second episode of The Nexus, the guys finally get to Captain Kirk on TOS as he and Bones try to solve the mystery of a shape-shifting salt monster. Then over on TNG, things get a little sexy as the crew of the Enterprise becomes afflicted with sexaholism... or something. It's another fully-functional episode of WHM's The Nexus!

The Nexus is a We Hate Movies podcast where the guys futilely go through two Star Trek series at the same time; cover art by Felipe Sobreiro.

My girlfriend and I have been talking about doing this for a while now, and we've at last taken the plunge! Amazing as always, we're excited to make our way through. She's seen a lot more of the show than I have, but I grew up on the TOS movies. I gotta say I'm impressed by the shere, ... weirdness of the show. I'm told this doesn't let up. :) Love you guys, have a great vacation and thanks for yet another season. Don't forget to wear the blue!

My turn to drop some TOS nerd info on you guys. The actual "2nd pilot" and therefore what should have been the first episode of TOS that aired is actually "Where No Man Has Gone Before", which is the one where Gary Mitchell and Hotlips from the M*A*S*H movie get the god-like powers and Kirk has his fight -to-the-death at the end with his former best buddy. You'll notice the different tone and uniforms and a bit more character introductions. I could go on but I'll stop here for everyone's sake.

Ehh, socks too

I wore a similar rainbow striped shirt as Mr. Crusher. The 80's were awesomely odd.

I can't wait until episode 3 "Planet of spear wielding blacks steals a white lady and they fight in a cyber jungle gym." The fight cage is what your cousin who was way too into American gladiators at 8 would make.

Sorry if the serious trekkies already pounced on this, Uhura is fluent in Swahili and I think the whole thing about her speaking all the languages is more from the reboot. Its sort of implied it's her first language or one she grew up with, so it makes sense that an alien would use that to charm her.

One of my earliest memories is having my hair cut by a family friend at the salon where she worked: "The Man Trap," the interior of which looked pretty much like the bar/brothel from Total Recall.

Matthew Mariner

Yar came from a failed human colony whose society collapsed. And yeah, the next TNG episode is what you guys call "problematic"

God. This episode made me laugh a lot!! This is def worth the $8 a month!

Listened to this three times, still got a laugh.

Other awesome TNG-Horror episode, the one where everyone is de-volving into monsters when Picard and Data are off ship! So scary good!!

Funny you bring up Baywatch Nights, cause Maurice Hurley went from being producer of TNG to making Baywatch Nights. Oh yeah, Code of Honor is planet of tribal black people who say "where all da white women at?" There is NO avoiding racism accusations in this one and Roddenberry is said to have fired the director halfway through production on this one.\

Code of Honor AKA Fear of a Black Planet. November can't come fast enough.

Sad to say, the upcoming episode of Next Gen is hella racist. Basically, the first two seasons of TNG are pretty terrible. The show only got good in season three because they finally moved Roddenberry to a position where he couldn't influence the writers room anymore.

Can't wait to listen to your take on the infamous "fully functional" episode.

Also: is the meth addict being played by Bruce Glover?

Seeing how the showrunner of Discovery is Bryan Fuller who showran Hannibal, I think there's a good chance we get a cannibal planet.

Risa is the pleasure planet, off the top of my head anyway. :)
