2026-02-07 05:37:32 +0000 UTCIn the end it all comes down to the basic principle that all is the Dao. Yin and Yang, heaven and earth, freedom and obligation, all need to be properly balanced. Not necessarily in equal parts, but you also won't find your path by always restricting yourself to just one half. To me, Liren and Zihao are such a beautiful example of two people balancing each other out and thereby helping each other to be more true to themselves. Tian was longing to run away from the monestary for a long time, but because of Liren he was forced to stay and was then able to explore and satisfy the small part of him that couldn't just leave the monestary behind.

There is an old Japanese story of a craftsman who disguised himself as a Zen monk to hide from tax collecters. An actual monk came by and tried to debate with him, but the craftsman feared he would be found out and remained silent. A series of misunderstood pantomimes later the monk left convinced the craftsman was enlightened.

Does skipping or being Stuck at the 10th level affect future progress? Also is there a sky pride discord? I haven’t seen one.

"Bronze cash" should be something like "bronze coin" (but would be repeated later in the sentence so not as good) or maybe "bronze currency" which could be phrased more to show how little attachment Tian has to money. Im pretty sure that was the intent with your first wording, however it feels a bit clunky. Loved the chapter though and really like how youre fleshing out a world that is typically ignored.

I want more. It’s Friday night and been an incredibly long week of work, and I so deeply wish I wasn’t subscribed to this Patreon yet so that I could read everything on here for the first time. There have been so many excellent chapters lately and I have no patience.

Tian himself saved a bunch of villagers when he was in West Town. Any sort of reform would have to be far more nuanced than what you have described.

2026-02-07 00:04:11 +0000 UTCAs fun as Sect Leader Hong Liren and Grand Elder Tian Zihao sound, it seems like that’s buying into the system they’re trying to fix. If their plan for reformation is “speak softly and carry a big stick,” then they’re no different from early Starsieve. Kinda seems like the solution is replacing a system that hinges on good faith actors with one that operates on mutual benefit. Let the mortals farm for the immortals while the immortals keep the peace, and that’s basically the social contract. It does require the cultivators to get off their asses and work in the mortal world though…

The inner court have a longer view and way more freedom. Plus, they've 'won' the next step to immortality already so they're not so pressured to stay.
