Ask Me One Piece - February 2022

Hey everyone! Hope your Winter season is going along well!

As with every month, if you have any questions you wish to ask me about One Piece or anything in general, please feel free to ask away! I'll reply to each of them as extensively as I can!

I think the current implications in the story are that what triggered the Gorosei to give the order to kill Luffy immediately was due to their most recent discussion, the one where they talked about that certain devil fruit. This could potentially imply that Luffy’s fruit is much more special than we know, though it would require the visual use of Zunesha at the end of the chapter to be a bait and switch, which while not impossible, I find that a bit disappointing since it feels like visually tricking the readers. But if the fruit really is Luffy’s, then I wonder why only now they are suddenly deciding to kill him. Were they somehow not aware of the fruit before? Like you said though, I doubt Shanks was talking to them about Luffy, unless Shanks turns out to be evil, which I find ridiculous, I don’t really see any reason for him to really warn them about Luffy. The only choice that comes natural to my head is Blackbeard. This is quite simply because Shanks already did warn Whitebeard about Blackbeard, telling him how he was vastly underestimating BB’s power, since he is someone who always hid his true potential to never stand out until it was his time. Whitebeard didn’t pay heed to Shanks, and he ultimately ended paying the price. So it’s possible the same could be repeating here, but with Shanks having to go as far as asking the Gorosei directly. After all, if Blackbeard is going to be the final villain of One Piece, which it looks like it might be quite likely at this point, then I feel he would have to be stronger than potentially even Kaido or Big Mom. So if that’s the case, it’s possible that Blackbeard legitimately has something up his sleeve he hasn’t shown yet, and that level of threat is precisely what Shanks is so worried about. Given the connection between the two, with Shanks having gotten a scar from him we’ve seen since the very first chapter of the series, I definitely think there’s some history between the two!

Hello Artur Since last chapter revealed that the Five Elders asked CP0 to get rid of Luffy, what do you think happened at Mary Geoise, in particular between Shanks and the Five Elders? I personally highly doubt he told them anything about Luffy (or at least anything that would put him in danger) so them deciding to have Luffy dead and Shanks talking to them is probably unrelated, however i wonder if we have enough infos to have an idea on who he was talking about: maybe Kaido, maybe Rocks? I'm curious to know what your thoughts on this are

If you were to ask me for a safe answer that would be the likeliest power and backstory for Imu, I probably wouldn’t be able to answer with confidence, since Imu is just that much of a mystery. I think before we even come to understand anything else, we first need to understand… who they even are. We know so little about them in general that it’s hard to establish anything else. That said, we can definitely speculate! When it comes to Imu’s background story, I think there are one of two possibilities. Either: a) they are a new character, or b) they are actually a character we’ve seen or heard of before. If it’s the first one then it’s hard to really say what they could be, aside from some entity of the Void Century, but if it’s the latter, then the only character that comes to my head they could be is Xebec himself. I know it might seem odd at first, but Xebec was someone who wanted to be “King of the World” (not Pirate King), which is literally what Imu is right now. So if they aren’t the same person somehow, they should at least be connected in one way or another. I think it’s also fitting that Imu and Rocks were literally introduced back to back in the Reverie arc. It’s possible that through some weird unknown method, Xebec might’ve been able to legitimately inherit his position as King of the World. As for Imu’s powers, if they are meant to be a force to be fought, then some incredibly powerful fruit would be fitting. I came up with the idea of the Water Water Fruit, since it would be befitting of such a position. I basically wrote many of my ideas on who Imu could be (even if I’m not fully confident they’ll happen) in my fan manga Return to the Reverie, so you may want to check it out if you want to see more of that: I will say though, regarding your second question, I think the World Government’s power really comes from their military influence. They have a good control of the Marines, and it’s not like the Marines can easily defect all of a sudden, much like many militaries across our world. It’s structured in such a way that those on top keep the power well in control. The only ones that come close to posing a threat are the Yonko, but the fact that they tend to antagonize each other keeps a sense of balance, which is why when Kaido and Big Mom allied the World Government was legitimately scared. That said, that’s where the three powers system comes in, as the balance between Shichibukai, Admirals/Marines, and Yonko kept the world stable. But with the Shichibukai out and half of the Yonko falling, it seems this stability will completely fall apart. Who knows what might happen then!

HI Arthur, what is your idea about Imu's background story? And, what is the power of the world government that allows them to do cruelties and makes strong powers, such as marines and even yonko not attack them?
