A comfortable, comforting, heartwarming piece of music which nicely sets the romantic sentiment expressed in the lyrics.
Gordon Lightfoot wrote one of the very best songs ever written (and that's saying something, coming from me!): SUNDOWN.
I sure hope you get a chance to hear it...
And, of course, The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.

There are a lot of great Gordon Lightfoot songs. Some of my favourites are: If You Could Read My Mind, Canadian Railroad Trilogy, Bitter Green, Don Quixote, Cotton Jenny, That's What You Get For Loving Me, Sundown - I'd better stop now.

"I Want to Hear it From You" has a heavy brass sound and this was in 1968. Not very "folky".

Really enjoyed that. Amy, Gordon Lightfoot has quite a few songs that were hits. I would say he was more a folk singer than a country artist. On the radio, you'll hear Mr Lightfoot on the easy listening stations. My mother absolutely loved him, and when I say she loved him, I'm understating. She thought he hung the moon. All that aside, you definitely need to listen to 'wreck of the Edmond Fitzgerald'. Hands down the best song ever written about a ship sinking. The man could sure tell a story.

His songs are poetry. I too think Folk, not Country music. Suggestions. "Carefree Highway", "For Loving Me", "Did She Mention My Name", "Early Morning Rain", "Ribbon of Darkness", "Minstrel of the Dawn", "Summer Side of Life".

Dancing Queen, SOS, Mamma Mia, Waterloo, Knowing Me Knowing You, Take A Chance on Me, etc etc etc.....those are all known. But Andante, Andante is a hidden treasure with magnificent Piano and Guitar and vocals. Plus, the subject matter is without a doubt the most explicit lesson in how to do it right with a special ending that brings the whole song together. A gem

I would prefer she reacts to one of the big hits. Maybe dancing queen first since everybody except Amy knows that one. I never heard this lightfoot song.

Agreed. Sundown is a great song. The rest of Gordon Lightfoot I can basically take or leave.

Gordon Lightfoot! You made my day. Yes, he is timeless. There is so much more where that came from. Glad you enjoyed it.

I see you realize Gordon is not Country, his lyrics are deep and often profound. 'The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald' can bring even casual listeners to tears. 'If You Could Read My Mind' captures the heartbreak of broken relationships that Country music only approximates. Thanks for that.

"Country" in the description is misleading -- I suppose he showed occasional country influences throughout his long career, but ol' Gord is clearly in the folky singer-songwriter camp. "If You Could Read My Mind" is the one that put him on the map, I believe -- a darker, more powerful ballad than this.

Enjoyed that. I’ve liked Gordon Lightfoot since SUNDOWN, a little different female sentiment song. You know he made Edmond Fitzgerald a household name. Hey, I was sailor in my younger days.
I share your sentiments on country music, with just a little more distain. I was raised in the Porter Wagner, Dolly era, the girls wore their hair fairly normal, but the guys with that country hair do form the greasy 50s, trying to look like Elvis. They was even hard to look at. But there was one, that damn George Jones And if you ever think about listening to that genre. Be fore worn it’s captivating

SUNDOWN is the best Gordon Lightfoot song, imho.
I wish I had written it... NO, I don't! Because if I had, no one else would have heard such a wonderful song... so it's just as well that Gordon did it.

I can listen to this one but not the Beatles. Strange.
After listening to Amy I like this song better than I originally did.
I hate to post about another artist but please, please, do Andante, Andante by ABBA.
