To be honest, it felt like the world was conspiring against me for this release. My car broke down, my internet went out, my laptop died, I hurt my wrist, and I forgot I promised to help someone pour a basement's worth of concrete.
I'm still having a few formatting issues with it. Namely, it shows up as 342 pages when every other 150k word book shows up as 500+ pages. But wherever the problem is it is happening inside of Amazon's magic black box. They updated things in the background on me and now it doesn't quite work the same. There are few odd spaces here and there that I want to get rid of, and I have already spotted one typo I have to fix in the next upload.
But it is done, and the flex tape holding my car together seems to be holding. I'll fiddle with the formatting more when I've got more time and energy.
I did bump the pricing up to $5.99. That's purely to help with ranking. Amazon seems to favor more expensive books doing well over cheaper books doing well when dolling out their ranking-based search relevancy, even if very few people are actually buying the book and most of the sales are borrows through KU. I don't know why that is, but a book 6 needs all the extra ranking it can get so potential readers can still find it.

I originally introduced the Dopplegangers because they were supposed to be a tie in point for another series in the 10,000 Worlds. I've tabled the story for now though because other authors told me sci-fi harems and non-human protagonists both aren't doing very well now in terms of sales, and trying to do both was a recipe for disaster.

I know you have mentioned wanting to branch out in your writing beyond the Spellheart series, but with your 10,000 worlds concepts, there's a ton you could outside the main series such as short stories featuring a completely new character on a different world that has nothing to do with your main story. For example one could be the journals of some servant of a powerful character, like a "day in the life of.." type of thing. I dunno, I think you have a gold mine for side projects that could bring in some extra $$ and upgrade from Flex Tape to FiberFix or Gorilla tape for your car ;)

2021-06-11 20:31:12 +0000 UTCThanks dude! I definitely appreciate that. I might someday go higher if I end up doing a book with a lot of expenses like internal images and a line and copy edit. I'm a bit hesitant to go higher right now, although that would probably help with ranking more. Right now though I'm trying to keep the books in the green by keeping expenses very lean by doing the copy edits myself. The fact that you guys help with proofreading also helps, because that is one of the things I would ordinarily have to hire out for a few hundred bucks at least. Copy or line editing would be a lot more.
