I've been wanting to do mtg cards featuring Jace for a long while and I finally had some time on the weekend to work on another! I want to both repurpose existing cards in a saucy context (like the Jace and Gideon one from months ago) and make original cards that are just explicitly designed to capture the scenario I want to draw. Here's the first original card! I did my best to design a functional card, it just gives my brain enrichment :)
(This isn't a part of April's monthly drawings, just a thing I did on my spare time by the way!)
In the attachments you'll find versions of the drawing with glowy eyes Jace as well as a version without his markings or glowy eyes if you're not that into mtg and just wanna see a regular guy getting vined :) Also attached are hi-res cards! Sketches down below too.
I did this sketch sometime last year before shelving it. It was a rush job, I just wanted to capture the vibe.
I redid the sketch when I finally came back to it this weekend. I redrew his head in a more comfortable position and added more vines!
I was really vibing with the drawing and committed to doing a borderless full art card, which meant expanding the composition and adding a lot more scenery. I've actually never done such an open wide shot before, since my usual art likes a close up shot of the action. I'm really quite happy with how it turned out!
