Patreon's Billing Changes

Hey all! As some of you may or may not know, starting in November Patreon is being forced to change their billing system to fit with Apple's guidelines. What this means for you:

When you join a Patreon, your recurring payment will be on your join date every month rather than the first of every month.
Apple users will have to pay an additional 30% platform fee on check out when joining through the app. This doesn't seem to apply if you join through a browser.

Regardless of these changes, my patreon page operates as a subscription to a monthly pack of drawings rather than as a continuous live service, so the way I distribute packs will remain the same. What this means for you:

On the first of every month, you will receive the monthly pack for the month you were billed on.
- For example, if you join November 29th, 2024 you will receive November 2024's monthly pack on December 1st.
- You'll still have access to December's WIPs and previews and will receive December 2024's pack on January 1st when your subscription renews on December 29th.

Effectively, this is not any different from how it already works now, but I want to clarify the language preemptively before the change. If there's any unforeseen special circumstance, shoot me a DM when it happens and I'll be more than happy to help fix it.

Anyway, this change is kind of scary to me. Not knowing what my finances will look like because payments are spread out sporadically throughout the month instead of all at the beginning when I pay my bills is a change I'm very uncomfortable with. It's just very tiring to have big faceless corporations continuously string artists and creators around. It's been really rough for a few years now. I guess there is some element of uncertainty about whether this change will be the thing that makes it too difficult to continue doing this. I'll keep you guys updated, but I'm hopeful for now.
