Chapter 1309 - Anthony On Tour - Going All Out
Added 2024-02-19 08:28:26 +0000 UTCOverhead, the enormous chunk of stone looms like the hammer of a fat and drunken god. Millions of tons? Billions of tons?
Who can say? I’m certainly not busting out the scales, that’s for sure!
My brains burn inside my head as they are pushed beyond the limits which exist past the first set of limits. Every mind-construct screams with effort, getting double, or triple the amount of effort from each cell of my brains that they should be capable of.
The mana flows like a hurricane, and I mould it to my will, forcing it down, through the construct and out the other side, into my rapidly growing spell.
All the while, the great hunk of stone falls towards us.
My first spell fires off with an all too familiar howl. A gravity bomb, not even an especially large one, rockets upward from my mouth and flies directly into the face of the collapsing mountain.
All too soon, the size of the bomb is completely dwarfed by the city-sized hunk of rock, but I’m not worried. Well, I’m not worried about that. This was merely the first salvo, and I’m confident it will do its job.
It takes longer than I expect for the spell to hit, the stone is simply so huge, I’d assumed it was much closer than it actually was, not that it’s a relaxing thought. If anything, it helps to drive home just how much danger I’m actually in.
As expected, the moment the bomb comes into contact with the mountain, it expands, and begins to devour. However, it is hopelessly, laughably outclassed by what it faces. In an instant, the spell vanishes from sight, disappearing inside the stone as it remains in place, but the rock falls around it.
With my unique gravity sense, I know that my spell only managed to penetrate a little over a hundred metres into the enormous plate of stone, which must be three to four hundred metres thick at least. I suppose this is proof that there is only so much ‘suck’ in each gravity bomb I make, which is surely proportional to how much mana I put into the spell. The sheer volume of stone was too much for such a piddly bomb to consume, and it was quickly overwhelmed.
However, it did its job perfectly, carving a tunnel to the interior of the colossal stone.
Mana continues to flow, and I send all of it into one, dark mass. Energy thunders through my body, pushing the gravity mana construct to its limit. I have to dedicate too many minds to just maintaining and controlling the flow of energy, not to mention operating the construct and holding it together, so I don’t have as many as I’d like holding my spell together.
Which is a problem.
Rapidly taking shape is a ball up super-compressed mana, revolving and spinning within me as I focus inwards. Every spare mind, along with my main brain, is concentrating on this alone, squashing down the fresh gravity mana and then feeding into the growing monstrosity.
The still forming bomb darkens continuously as an endless stream of power flows into it. Gradually, I’m forced to peel minds away from gathering external mana and dedicate them to holding the damn thing together, lest it explode in my face.
The Gravity Bomb roils and churns violently, threatening to come undone, the sheer volume of power forced within it straining to burst free.
Oh no you don’t!
Mandibles clenched, brains steaming, I push, and I push, and I push. The spell firms, then wobbles, then firms again as I continue the unrelenting flow of magic.
There’s probably people yelling at me right now. Protectant, doubtlessly, but even I don’t have the brain power to focus on something like that right now. Every mind construct, every neuron, is dedicated to this spell. Increasingly, more and more of them are dedicated to simply containing it.
From an endlessly deep purple, the colour of the bomb changes to a nigh perfect, seamless black, and the spell itself sucks in the magic I push toward it without any input from me.
Unlike the last time this happened, I eagerly offer up all the power I can summon. All minds are cut off from external mana gathering and instead dedicated to maintaining the spell as I reach within, and empty out my gravity mana gland.
A flood of mana is released, and it is consumed.
In an instant, the bomb within my body has become a violent and unstable nightmare. It thrashes and boils within as I force my will upon it, trying to hold the damn thing together with all of my might!
I just. Need. It. To. stabilise. For. A. Second!
Throwing back my head, I aim as best I can, then let it rip.
In the same moment, my Altar drains of energy as I empower the spell to my utmost limit.
There, just above my head, a monster is born.
HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWLLLL!!!!!
The world goes black, and the sky starts to scream.
Sails are torn from masts, ropes are ripped apart, the formally calm waters rise up around us, lifting the boats along with them. Frothing waves form and crash into each in an instant, and the wind. Holy moly, the wind.
The Gravity Bomb I fired is so perfectly dark I can’t even see the edge of it, the light around it is completely lost. It’s almost impossible to tell the size of it, but I fear the thing is almost as large as I am, and it hasn’t even expanded yet.
From kilometres around, the wind comes, a shrieking hurricane forms around the bomb as it consumes the air around it, sucking in more, which sucks in more, which sucks in more, until my antennae are whipping against my carapace and I fear they’re going to break off.
What have I done?
“Uh… maybe hold onto something. This could be bad.”

2024-02-20 02:13:51 +0000 UTC@alt I see you glossed over "notice the absence" and "...in the FUTURE." Remember, reading comprehension is our friend. On second thought, sometimes critics do have a point.

2024-02-19 21:23:18 +0000 UTCyou got the mass of granite wrong though, a cubic meter of granite weight 2700 kg, not 26.6

2024-02-19 20:55:23 +0000 UTCIt really isn’t. It is a bad practice that really got traction a few years ago (although it is being practiced since even before that and ever since) and some just stick to it since it is easy and quick. If you only read in bulk, then that is not so bad, but there have always been web novels which strive to tell a complete/coherent mini story that makes you want to read more. Almost daily uploads make that hard of course and make it hard not to have a too abrupt ending. Especially in these kind of stories constantly cliffhangers happen all the time, at least in my experience. My recommendation always was and probably always will be is to either switch up the format, which can be jarring in and of itself or, which I prefer, a separation between paid content like Patreon and Free content like on Royalroad. Uploading once or twice a week with simple dividers on Patreon, making the content which you consume easier to digest in more or less complete mini stories, while the readers that do not pay have to deal with the never ending onslaught of annoying cliffhangers without ever getting the satisfaction of knowing what comes next. While cliffhangers are good at acquiring paying customers, it simply does not lend itself so well at keeping paying customers, as expectations and entitlement rise with spending for a service, especially when that content is simply available when you only have to wait for it. But I will no longer bore you with Economic Psychology. Especially with such basics, which you can probably find on Youtube. As an example I can always list Amazon as an example, as their success rests on the back of their immaculate optimisation of Customer/User experience (even if their business and general responsibilities in numerous other areas suffered greatly because of their economic single mindedness). In the end you can distill it down to “would I like it this way?”. If you don’t care, get people who are from different social and/or economic strata to answer these questions for you. Like… on a Discord perhaps? But in the end, it also comes down to willingness and/or awareness of these matters. Considering that on Readlightnovel.org Chrysalis was being pirated and I made RinoZ aware (maybe they already were) they are not totally unwilling to combat business matters, but these are merely reactionary, where as stuff like these considerations are mostly proactive until they aren’t, like in this discussion, not that this is in any way shape or form a representative view of the mood of the general community. Alas. I’ve rambled enough. Do with this what you will. Chrysalis is too entrenched in the larger community as to really implode due to this, but it is nonetheless annoying, and mounting annoyances like this have been the fall of many a smaller web fiction. It is worth a consideration, but that is not up to any of us. And action is not warranted, even if the fix would probably be as easy as a making a poll, and then updating the release schedule.

2024-02-19 20:12:04 +0000 UTCIt'd be interesting if we find out that all monsters can converse with Gandalf while in evolution sleep. No one talks about it but... im curious if anyone else talks to him or if it's just reincarnated ones
Nathan Quitugua
2024-02-19 20:09:57 +0000 UTCIt is easier to be a critic, but sometimes critics have a point. Also, how would they have a PoV? They're deep in 'evolving to tier 7' sleep.

2024-02-19 19:57:02 +0000 UTCFor those of you who are wondering, a square meter of granite weighs on average 26.6 Kilograms. Since the legion fleet is several Kilometers away, and that Golgari obviously don't want to start anything with them by sinking their fleet I'm going to make the assumption that the city sized rock described is around 4 Square Kilometers, since a 2x2 Km rock is the largest size I can get away with while still have the ability to reasonably not hit the legion fleet .The rock described as being 400 meters thick at least. Doing the math, assuming the rock is made of granite, which is probably inaccurate, the slab of rock would weigh at least 42.56 Billion Kg or 42.56 Million Metric Tons. Assuming an earth gravity of 9.6 Meters/Sec^2 and knowing that the rock will be falling for at least 20 seconds after it completely obscures the sky, and making the further assumption that the rock was falling for 10 seconds prior to that it started falling from a height of 4412.99 meters and should have a velocity of 294m/sec upon impact. Therefore the kinetic energy of the rock upon impact unimpeded would be 1,839,358,080 MJ, or approximately 43 Megatons of TNT.

2024-02-19 19:22:57 +0000 UTCTo address all the complaints, its always easier to be a critic than a creator. On a side note, I'm starting to really notice the absence of Tiny, Crinsis, and Invidia. Miss them. Maybe a POV in the future? Just a thought.

2024-02-19 18:47:46 +0000 UTCIt's the nature of web novels to have a cliff per chapter it seems. I subscribe to Primal Hunter too and the cliffs are agonizing. :)

2024-02-19 18:35:50 +0000 UTCI second that motion.
Tsunami
2024-02-19 18:23:02 +0000 UTCAlso I think because the chapters aren’t released daily it makes it more frustrating once you are left on a massive cliff because you know it’s likely going to be days before you find out what’s next. 100% agree with you that cliffs should be a rarity rather than standard practice
Callum Macmillan
2024-02-19 17:54:00 +0000 UTCIt does have somewhat of a Dragon Ball Z charging a kamehameha vibe, I think if we actually got to see the initial results of the gravity bomb at least then it would have been good. Then all the other perspectives and reactions to the resulting fallout could follow in the next chap
Callum Macmillan
2024-02-19 17:50:36 +0000 UTCI don't think gravity well would've worked, just because of the sheer mass. Carving a massive hole around where the mountain was going to impact them via gravity bomb would've been a more realistic solution.
Runaway_Cactuar
2024-02-19 16:56:07 +0000 UTCI think the reason RinoZ spent so many words describing Anthony’s efforts to counter the falling city-sized mountain of rock is because this marks an important milestone in Anthony’s life and the lives of those who perceive what he is capable of. All his enemies really know is that he is a mythic core Tier 7. They know this means Anthony is powerful. However, they do not know just how far beyond that standard power level that Anthony is capable of going. This public demonstration to both the golgari and The Legion will put them on notice that Anthony and The Colony are a power that is not to be underestimated. Very important chapter(s).
Buck
2024-02-19 16:34:48 +0000 UTCI'm actually hesitant to agree with other detractors; this chapter was pretty formulaic. We've seen how Anthony makes gravity bombs. He pushes it together, he struggles to stabilize it, feeds it more mana, watches it fly off, and goes "Oh no what have I done?" Like, we've seen it many times from his perspective. This chapter would be much better, and advance the plot more, from someone else's perspective.

2024-02-19 11:37:56 +0000 UTCSo I love everything of this story and am always excited for new chapters. But a whole chapter being nothing but 'creating a gravity bomb' and literally nothing else wasn't soo good to me. But I'm excited for the fall out of it.

2024-02-19 10:16:32 +0000 UTCCliff after cliff after cliff. I mean I’m here long enough to be used to it, but to be honest… this is why I mostly left most free fictions that do this. If the chapters don’t form a coherent story it gets annoying/exhausting really quickly. This is probably the only story I’ve been following for four or five years that I haven’t been continuously subscribed to. On RR or wherever that might make sense. Certainly gets people hooked, and a non paying customer sure as shite can’t complain. But even there it gets tiring quickly. Soo… Dunno. Thanks for the Dragon Ball Z Chapter I guess? Mostly not though.
