Originally, the island of KingsCrown was inhabited only by the locals. They had no formal organization, and most locations weren’t really named—places were known simply as the village, the beach near the village, the mountain ridge, and so on.

One day, a foreigner arrived on the beach of what is now Palicon Bay. The locals nearby watched as he pointed at the large sea birds and said “Pelican.” They found the word funny and began using it to refer to the birds themselves, even though in their own language the bird was called Akrah’ur.

The twist was their Crownian accent: when they said Pelican, it came out sounding like Palicon. Over the years, the surrounding area became informally known as the Palicon area.

Eventually, a foreign cartographer came along and asked the locals for the name of the area. Hearing them say Palicon, he assumed that was the actual name of the bay and wrote it down on his map, never suspecting that it was simply a mishearing caused by their accent.

As time passed, Crownian society began adopting the foreign language alongside their own. The district was now officially known as Palicon Bay, and nobody ever contested the name. And that is how Palicon Bay came to be—through a mix of misheard words, accents, and a foreigner’s quill—rather than the intended Pelican Bay.
