PATREON POLICY CHANGES (IMPORTANT)
Added 2017-12-07 03:10:26 +0000 UTCHey guys. I, and many other creators, got some news from Patreon today that I think y'all deserve to be aware of ASAP.
They are changing how fees are being handled. Thus far, various fees have been handled primarily on the Creator's end, IE, Y'all may pledge X amount of money to me total, but I end up getting X-(fees) at the end of the month. It's been this way since day 1.
Starting on the 18th however, Patreon has made the decision to shift the fees onto the patron end, so every pledge by a patron will now be: Pledge + 2.9% + $0.35. To give you an example, $1 patrons will now be paying approximately $1.38, and that's ignoring EU patrons with their VAT tax.
I am not a fan of this change. At all. I think this does a great disservice to people who giving smaller pledges, since they often do this because they lack the funds to pledge more, or are pledging to many many other campaigns at once. If you are on a tight budget and this change will end up putting you in a situation where you need to cut your support from campaigns, I fully understand if you cut mine. There will be no hard feelings from me.
I wanted to inform you all of this because, as i said above, I think it is deeply unfair not only to you, but to small campaigns like mine where losing a large amount of $1-$5 pledges really stings. If you are also worried by this change, I would highly recommend you send patreon an email and voice your feelings, particularly if you are a patron who would have to cut your support to any of the campaigns you are currently pledged to.

More pledges = more content for our fans, so just keep good working up ;)

2017-12-13 20:14:32 +0000 UTCyeah any amount below $1 isnt considered valid. plus, tbh, while obviously any pledge is greatly appreciated, when we start going even less than a dollar, at that point there's more $ going to fees than to actually supporting a creator. And no, I'm not sure if patreon is adjusting the tier prices to reflect the fees, since that will be different depending on whether you are an EU citizen or not.

2017-12-07 20:31:29 +0000 UTCI didn't know 1 was the minimum allowed tier. Won't the tiers automatically display the added cost of fees in this new model?

2017-12-07 08:12:18 +0000 UTCMy patreon currently only has a pledge tier of $1, I really can’t go lower than that. And even if I could, no matter what, the amount that the patron would have to ACTUALLY pay would be more than the tier advertises. I can’t change that.

2017-12-07 05:41:54 +0000 UTCI sent a feedback bit to them! I really hope they back down on this because it's essentially gutting lower level pledging which, let's be real, is horse shit.

2017-12-07 03:24:49 +0000 UTCBut isn't it the responsibility of the artist to change the pledge tiers accordingly?

2017-12-07 03:19:41 +0000 UTCRip, this would def affect me a lot because I’m pledged to various artists $5-10
