September 2025 Update

I'm going to start doing a monthly update for everyone, where I give you guys stats, updates, and reflections on the way the month has gone. If next month comes around and I forget to do this again, then YELL AT ME (please don't).

Updates:

PRINCESS OF THE VOID has surpassed 350,000 words! That's the length of Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy. We're a handful of chapters into volume 5, and I'm having a blast with it, though as we enter autumn my day job is getting more and more hectic (there's always more work this time of year) and my output might be slowing down to reflect that.

The audiobook version is on the way! My patreon super pals have voted on a few different auditions, and I think we're aligning around one in particular who did a fantastic job.

HEADLESS OVER HEELS, my next book, is still in the outlining stage. I've been putting stuff in now and then, but to be honest my word count is almost entirely taken up by PotV at this point. Still--excited to get stuck in! There is, I'll admit, a certain anxiety when it comes to following up a big successful story with a new and unproven one. But what I have so far really excites me and I hope it'll excite you too. Some day.

WIFE AFTER DEATH is experiencing a bit of a resurgence as more people go back and rediscover it which is lovely to see. If you are a PotV reader and want more to gnaw on I really recommend it; it's still one of my favorite things I've written, and something I'd happily revisit someday if the appetite were there, though I think the way it ended was pretty satisfying and conclusive.

POWER TRIO is going to undergo a relaunch at the end of this year, to start publishing over on Royal Road. I'm going to go over it with another coat of paint as it publishes. Depending on how it's received I am perhaps going to do a more extensive rewrite of Power Ballad, which died a pretty somber death on Scribblehub. I learned a lot from that, I think, though I still love the book.

SUCCUBUS GIMMICK, my pro wrestling novella, is still chugging away. I predict it will be fully uploaded for super pals before autumn is finished. Then I'll figure out where it can live for public access.

Reflections:

I had sort of feared privately at this point I'd be running out of steam on Princess of the Void, but I'm still having a great time. Knocking out 1-2k words a day remains a pleasure. I credit some of that to the serialization of it and the regularly changing storylines, but a lot of it to you, the reader, whose enthusiasm is really infectious and a great motivator.

My plan is to continue to focus predominantly on it through to the end of Volume 6. Then I'll finally take a breather, assess, and see about getting more daylight on other projects. At a guess that means it will continue to be my primary story through 2026.

The plan for PotV has always been to keep it going as long as the enthusiasm about it remained high, and that has stayed the case. I hope that I'll be able to keep telling Grant and Sykora's story as they become parents and raise their kids to become characters in their own right. A lot of stories end when the family is complete and relegate parenthood to the epilogue, but I would like to stick with these characters and their marriage through that transformation, which often feels under-explored in romantic fiction.

One thing I have been pondering now and then is going full time as an author. It's just not realistic right now for me at what I'm earning off Patreon, I'm afraid, since I live in an expensive city and have a pretty well-paying day job I enjoy. But I admit that there is a certain aspiration in me; I sometimes imagine what I could produce if I could dedicate my full-time work to authorship. It felt like idle fancy before, and it still does, sort of. But maybe a little less than it used to.
