Added 2024-12-05 01:04:15 +0000 UTCOver the last few years, people have asked if the paycomics will ever become free, and I've never given a definitive answer on it. Truth be told, I don't like pay-exclusive content. If I were popular enough to run a Patreon that can get away with time-gating some pieces for just some few months and still make rent, I would do so. That not being the case, I wont be able to stop making paycomics anytime soon. As a kind of compromise, I am considering releasing the comics I made in 2022 freely for the public over the course of 2025. That would include:
-Quest for the Golden Berry
-My New Pet Cow
-New Life Corp
-Got Silk
-Sluggish Whimsy
-Tavern Job
This would also set the precedent that the comics I made in 2023 would all be released freely for the public during 2026. (Currently, all comics I made in 2023 will become accessible to all current $5 Patrons and Subscribers in January 2025, just as the 2022 comics are now, and that wont be changing as part of this either way.)
I know you have no incentive to be honest in this poll, and there is technically a monetary incentive to lie here, but please, this is a matter concerning my ability to continue to create art for a living. So, I ask you,
If I were to change my release structure so that comics are only pay-exclusive for 3 years instead of permanently, would you:

I feel like my subscription is more based on the quality of the content provided, if a artist has content I like, (like a large part of your comics) I usually support them. Even if they become free over a large amount of time.

2024-12-05 14:22:57 +0000 UTCI'd 100% still support! Vast majority of the other folks i give my patronage have similar schemes anyways

2024-12-05 01:38:22 +0000 UTCI would support you as long as I can ^_^. I know my subscription here does not cover much of the new comic every month but I more on the tough that every help is important 💪. If anything. Releasing old pages every few months or weeks could help convince people to join to see early content . At least that is my two cents on that 😅

2024-12-05 01:26:45 +0000 UTCI actually use Patreon primarily as a way to support artists that I get free content from elsewhere (youtubers, webcomics, Bandcamp musicians, etc), so hypothetical free content in the far future wouldn’t be at all relevant in my decision making process. IMO it seems like it’d be a decent idea to release multi-years-old comics for free and keep new ones paywalled. The longer things exist the greater the chance of them escaping containment, but if they can be linked directly from your site, it should be easier for viewers to find their way back to you and subscribe to see your new works. ….That said, I doubt I’m in the majority in how I use Patreon, so don’t take my word for it!

2024-12-05 01:21:14 +0000 UTCThree years is a long time to wait for smut that looks interesting. I don't feel that many people who would have been willing to wait that long would also be the sort of people to subscribe to someone's patreon in the first place.

2024-12-05 01:18:51 +0000 UTCI have a compromise to your compromise, why not release the most popular paycomic of that year for free instead of the comics from that entire year. That way you could tempt people who haven't bought the others comics into buying the rest from that year and you'd only be releasing one pay comic for free each year.

2024-12-05 01:10:21 +0000 UTCWith that long of a free release delay? Of course I'd support. Some creators release their content free after like a month. This is is a much more exclusive offer in comparison. (Even though ththey inevitably get leaked anyways)
