I took this (full guy and cropped guy) in Utah in September. I saw these two giant phallic looking pillars from the road and knew I had to put my body on them. I knew I would give all of my physical energy to this mission and that’s for some reason never a hesitation for me… I pulled over as close as I could and ended up hiking a mile and a half out. It was kind of a mistake considering the state I was in but I didn’t realize until a few minutes in and sunk cost right 🥲
When I got there I had to recover before shooting and it was painful to watch the setting sun tease me. But goddamn it I am practicing autonomy and going at my pace. When I was ready I still took my time and pressed my body into both of the rock bodies and found some height before finding the sun. This was the literally only frame of shots that I got before it was totally gone. I ended up shooting kind of a little bit into blue hour but idk I need direct sun when in the desert for that playful lizard mode experience. After sunset it feels like… work.
So I chilled (see pic) for what turned into several hours and then it was pitch dark because the almost-new moon hadn’t risen. Luckily this is not my first on-brand rodeo so I had a headlamp and GPS coordinates and I slowly and methodically scurried back to my van in a trance-like state totally drunk on the milky way. I wish I had taken some phone pics, but I barely had enough energy to make it back to my van. And so it remains like a dream.
