How does fabric confine and suppress?
Added 2022-12-06 04:32:26 +0000 UTCI am participating in a fundraiser via the Venus Collective where 100% of proceeds from the next Venus de Tierra tour will be donated to an organization promoting women’s civil rights in Iran. More details will be announced later this week. For now I’m sharing a few images that I made during a pain flare day in fall 2021 in Virginia that illicit similar feelings regarding one’s relationship with fabric and what it does and does not cover up and how that might effect one’s feelings of self worth. These feelings are only heightened in the wake of having your very body condemned for simply existing. Imagine losing that very basic autonomy of wether the vessel that carries your own consciousness can be seen in public. It’s sickening. I am so incredibly fortunate to be able to partake in the self liberation and self expression that has saved my own life and I cry for those who cannot step into the streets each and every day without unnecessary fear and shame.
